Josh Allen Has Heartfelt Response to Tyler Bass’s Missed Field Goal in Bills’ Loss vs. Chiefs

The Buffalo Bills suffered some playoff heartbreak against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night after a game-tying 44-yard field goal from Tyler Bass sailed wide right.

After the game, Bills quarterback Josh Allen addressed the media and was asked about Bass’s miss late in the fourth quarter. Refusing to throw his teammate under the bus, Allen said that the team should never have been in that situation to begin with, indicating the offense needed to make a play and avoid fourth down altogether. 

“I wish it wouldn’t have been put in that situation. You win as a team, you lose as a team,” said Allen. “One play doesn’t define a game, it doesn’t define a season. I know people are gonna be out there saying that. We’ve got to be there for [Tyler], because (if) we execute a couple plays prior, we’re probably singing a different tune right now.”

Prior to Bass’s missed field goal, the Bills had been on a 16-play drive that spanned almost seven minutes. The two plays leading up to the field goal attempt were incomplete passes from Allen, one of which was thrown away. The quarterback suggested failing to pick up a first down on those plays was just as costly as Bass’s misfire from 44 yards out. 

Before exiting the field, Allen could be seen consoling Bass on the field, embracing the kicker before entering the tunnel and heading into the locker room. 

Amid the sting of one of the toughest losses of his career, Allen made clear that the blame rests with the team for its performance throughout the game, rather than one missed kick from Bass.
