Eagles Linked to Vic Fangio After Dolphins Split Ways With Coordinator

The Miami Dolphins have announced they are mutually parting ways with defensive coordinator Vic Fangio after just one season. Fangio is expected to become the top candidate for the Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive coordinator position, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.

Fangio is a veteran defensive coach who was the head coach of the Denver Broncos from 2019 to ’21. He joined Miami following a year out of the NFL and helped the Dolphins make the playoffs in 2023.

“When we assessed the season, it became apparent that this was the best path forward for all involved,” Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said in a statement. “Now, we turn to 2024 and beyond with urgency as we identify the best candidate to lead our defense moving forward.”

The 65-year-old is expected to go to Philadelphia to be closer to his family in Pennsylvania, according to Schefter.

Fangio worked as a consultant with the Eagles last season when Philadelphia made a run to the Super Bowl. However, after then-Eagles DC Jonathan Gannon left to become the Arizona Cardinals’ head coach, Fangio had already committed to joining the Dolphins.

The Eagles instead hired Sean Desai as their defensive coordinator, but the team fired Desai after their season ended. Philadelphia reportedly will now try to hire Fangio as it reshapes its coaching staff.
