Bucs QB Baker Mayfield Trolls Himself During Pro Bowl Interview

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield participated in the Pro Bowl Skills Showdown on Thursday night, where he won the precision passing event as part of the exhibition of some of the league’s best players in Orlando.

But that didn’t stop Mayfield from poking a little fun at himself during an interview with ESPN’s Ryan Clark. Clark asked Mayfield if it was tough to ramp up in the skills challenge when he hasn’t been practicing.

“My last pass I threw was to Derrick Barnes in Detroit,” Mayfield quipped with a laugh, catching Clark off-guard.

Mayfield, of course, was referencing the interception he threw in the NFC wild-card round to the Detroit Lions linebacker, which ended Tampa Bay’s season.

Despite the sour end to the year, Mayfield enjoyed a redemption season under center in Tampa Bay. After bouncing around the league the last few seasons, Mayfield settled in with the Buccaneers as the starting quarterback and played well.

He completed 64.3% of his passes for 4,044 yards and 28 touchdowns to 10 interceptions. He is an unrestricted free agent this offseason, but Tampa Bay is interested in bringing him back. Even if the Buccaneers move on, there should be no shortage of options for Mayfield after his strong 2023.
