Brock Purdy Showed Maturity Beyond Years With Humble Answer About Playing in Super Bowl

It’s been a quick ascent for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.

After a solid college career at Iowa State, he was the final pick in the 2022 NFL draft. Less than two years later, he’s a franchise quarterback and starting in the Super Bowl. So how important is playing in Super Bowl LVIII to him? His answer showed the maturity of a veteran.

“I mean, the bottom line is, life isn’t about you,” Purdy said during Monday night’s Super Bowl opening night press conference. “Like, that’s what I believe, you know? Being a part of something bigger than yourself. You get wrapped up in getting all the glory and the fame and the status, but I feel like that’s a shallow life. That can fade away pretty quickly.”

Purdy went on to emphasize the importance of being a good teammate while pursuing a championship for the 49ers.

“Obviously, yeah, we’re playing in the Super Bowl, and I’m very honored and thankful,” Purdy said. “I want to win a championship for this organization, but more than anything I’m trying to serve my guys on this team well and love on them well and the whole organization and everyone in my life. That’s how I view it.”

Purdy and the 49ers are looking to capture the organization’s first championship since the 1994 season. It won’t be easy against the defending-champion Kansas City Chiefs, but with offensive weapons such as Deebo Samuel, Christian McCaffrey and George Kittle in tow, Purdy is hoping to deliver a title to the organization and become a franchise legend forever.
