Chiefs’ Andy Reid Reveals What Travis Kelce Said During Heated Super Bowl Sideline Moment
Tensions were running high in the first half of the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVIII victory over the San Francisco 49ers, as Travis Kelce raised eyebrows—and became an internet meme—when he shouted in Andy Reid’s face, bumping the Chiefs coach backward following a Kansas City turnover in the red zone.
Kelce and Reid later laughed off the heated moment in postgame interviews, with the former declining to go into great detail on what he said to the latter.
But Reid pulled back the curtain a bit, saying Kelce was upset that he wasn’t in the game for the pivotal play.
“He was really just coming over to say, ‘Just put me in, I’ll score.’ That’s really what it was. I love that. It’s not the first time,” Reid told reporters at his postgame press conference.
Basically, Kelce was mad that Reid, who called a running play that resulted in a fumble by Isiah Pacheco, didn’t call his name in the red zone.
It’s hard to blame Kelce, who ranks second in career playoff touchdown catches to only Jerry Rice, for wanting the ball. It’s often the right play for Kansas City.
But one can criticize him for how he approached Reid. However, it seems as if the two have butted heads before and know how to put such moments behind them.
