Tyreek Hill Says He Gained Respect for Patrick Mahomes After Chiefs QB Berated Him Over Drops

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill has never been one to shy away from voicing his belief that Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes is the best quarterback in the NFL.

Despite no longer being teammates with Mahomes, Hill has maintained that there’s no player in the league who can do what the Chiefs quarterback can. And during a recent appearance on The Pivot podcast Hill explained to host Ryan Clark exactly why he has so much respect for Mahomes, sharing an anecdote about the quarterback’s lesser-known fiery side.

“We were on a bad streak, his supporting cast was playing bad; me, [Travis] Kelce, DeMarcus Robinson, Mecole [Hardman], Sammy [Watkins], we all was playing bad,” said Hill, speaking on one of his seasons in Kansas City. “This dude called the whole offense up … he cussed all of us the f— out.”

“That was a moment right there where he stood on busines s.... I really respect him, because he really just called out all his f–ing weapons, individually, pointed us out, looked us in the f–ing eyes, and said, ‘Tyreek, you think you’re so f–ing fast, but you can’t catch the f–ing ball. You want to be the best receiver in the game.’ … He was letting me have it,” said Hill.

Mahomes didn’t back down from calling out his receivers following some lackluster performances, and it seems that approach worked out well for the Chiefs offense.

“In that moment right there, I was like, ‘It’s go time now,’” said Hill. “That put so much … fuel in my heart. That next game, we were able to get things going.”

Hill indicated that Mahomes’s ruthlessness in that conversation is one of the reasons he feels the two-time MVP is a “different dude” than the rest of the league’s quarterbacks.
