Deebo Samuel Chimes in About 49ers Trade Rumors During NFL Draft

San Francisco 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel is one of the biggest names being tossed around in trade rumors in the early rounds of the 2024 NFL draft.
The 49ers reportedly were engaging in conversations with teams about a potential trade involving Samuel or fellow 49ers receiver Brandon Aiyuk leading up to the draft. San Francisco didn't pull the trigger Thursday but a trade is not necessarily off the table this offseason.
Samuel has seen the rumors floating around.
“I know what’s going on,” Samuel said to The Athletic's Dianna Russini. "But it is what it is. I'm good with staying with them. I'm chilling."
I spoke to Deebo Samuel on the phone and asked his reaction to the 49ers’ drafting of his potential replacement, and to the reports that they explored trading him. “I know what’s going on,” he said, “but it is what it is. I’m good staying with them. I’m chilling.”

Samuel, 28, is entering his sixth season with San Francisco. He has two seasons remaining on his three-year contract extension he signed with the 49ers in 2022.
The 49ers might be motivated to trade either Samuel or Aiyuk due to their incoming salary cap issues. San Francisco is projected to be nearly $24 million over the salary cap in 2025, and that's without needed contract extensions for Aiyuk and quarterback Brock Purdy, among others.
Samuel, who held out during the offseason in 2022 in search of a new contract, appears unbothered by the trade rumors and is content in the Bay Area.
