Can Brock Purdy Still win the NFL MVP Award?

Brock Purdy is no longer the favorite to win the NFL MVP award, but that does not mean he is totally eliminated from contention for it.

Can Brock Purdy Still win the NFL MVP Award?

In this story:

Brock Purdy was the betting favorite going into Week 16 to win the NFL MVP award.

Well, that now feels like a thing of the past. Purdy had an abysmal outing when the 49ers played the Ravens this past week. It was part of why the 49ers were defeated in beatdown fashion. That loss and performance against an elite team at home pushed Purdy down the totem pole of winning MVP.

Now it looks like Lamar Jackson has the best chance at winning it and even Christian McCaffrey who should've been garnering more popularity for it. However, there are still two games left in the regular season. Much can change with who is the favorite or not. It's such a volatile time with who can win it on a week-to-week basis.

So, can Purdy still win the NFL MVP award?

I don't feel confident in him winning it. For him to win it, he will need to lead the 49ers to the No. 1 seed, which means the 49ers need to win the final two games of the regular season. That is the first step towards keeping him alive. The next step is for Purdy to look excellent in those wins. He needs to be one of the top players in those wins for his case towards winning NFL MVP to come alive again. Both of those steps will put him in contention.

However, that probably will not be enough. It feels like Jackson has a strong lead right now, and so long as he doesn't play miserable in the last two games, he will most likely win it. The Ravens are able to clinch the No. 1 AFC playoff seed this week with a win, which will only give him more momentum at the award. MVP was always going to go to a player on a No. 1 seed team, and all that momentum resides with Jackson now.

He will need to have some average performances and for the Ravens to lose this week. Those scenarios just don't seem likely right now, so Purdy winning the NFL MVP award this year isn't feasible.
