49ers @ Raiders Week 17 Live Blog

In this story:
LAS VEGAS -- This is the live blog for the San Francisco 49ers' Week 17 road game against the Las Vegas Raiders. I will update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.
11:44 Here are the 49ers' inactives: Deebo Samuel, Ross Dwelly, Kemoko Turay, Ross Dwelley, Kevin Givens, Akeem Spence, Nick Zakelj and Jimmy Garoppolo.
11:52 The Eagles currently are losing 13-3, which means there's still a chance the 49ers could end up with the No. 1 seed -- the Eagles would have to lose today and next week. I for one hope they lose out, because I'd rather not fly to Philadelphia in January. Staying home for the playoffs sounds wonderful.
11:55 I'm curious to see if the Raiders will score any touchdowns in this game. I'm guessing they won't. They benched Derek Carr, which means their quarterback will be Jarrett Stidham, who never has started a game in his career. It's possible he's the next Brock Purdy, but it's more likely that he will struggle against a great defense. And I wonder how hard the Raiders will play. By benching Carr, they essentially waved the white flag on the season. So if they fall behind early, which seems likely, will they fight hard to come back and win a game that means nothing to them? Or will they start making business decisions on the field to avoid injuries that could lead to an offseason full of rehab? I'm guessing the Raiders will quit by halftime.
1:03 The 49ers win the toss and defer. The Raiders will receive the opening kickoff.
FIRST QUARTER
1:10 On 3rd and 2 from the 49ers 24, Talanoa Hufanga bites hard on a play-action fake and gives up a touchdown catch over his head to tight end Darren Waller. That's the sixth touchdown catch Hufanga has given up this season. And that was a six-play, 70-yard touchdown drive that seemed extremely easy.
49ers 0, Raiders 7.
1:20 On 3rd and 3 from the Raiders 38, Brock Purdy hands off to Christian McCaffrey who runs off right tackle for 36 yards. Two plays later, Purdy completes a play-action touchdown pass to Brandon Aiyuk, who appeared to get away with a push off. Beautiful drive by the 49ers offense, which came to play. Now the 49ers defense needs to wake up.
49ers 7, Raiders 7.
1:32 On 3rd and goal from the 1, the Raiders call a play-action pass but no one is open, so Stidham throws the ball away. And on fourth and goal from the 1, the Raiders kick a field goal, which is ridiculous considering their season is over. Just go for the freaking touchdown.
49ers 7, Raiders 10.
SECOND QUARTER
1:52 On 3rd and goal from the 2, Purdy spins to his left and hits George Kittle in the back of the end zone for a touchdown. That's another play Jimmy Garoppolo couldn't make because he's not mobile enough.
49ers 14, Raiders 10.
1:53 Aaron Banks injured his knee and is questionable to return.
2:03 On fourth and 1 from the 49ers 2, T.Y. McGill and Charles Omenihu stop Raiders running back Josh Jacobs for no gain. Finally, the defense woke up.
2:09 On 3rd and 6 from the 49ers 7, Brock Purdy throws the ball away while taking a hit in the end zone. Mike McGlinchey gave up pressure on that play, and Trent Williams committed two penalties during that series -- a false start and a hold. Bad series for him. After the punt, the Raiders take over at the 49ers 44.
2:22 On first and goal from the 4, Stidham throws a touchdown pass to Davante Adams, who ran a fade against Charvarius Ward, who jumped too soon. Amazing catch by Adams. The 49ers defense needs to make major adjustments at halftime. Stidham's passer rating is 149.4.
49ers 14, Raiders 17.
2:25 Purdy takes a knee. The first half ends.
2:25 The 49ers need to do a much better job of containing Stidham. They keep rushing past him and letting him scramble. So far, he has five carries for 31 yards -- 6.2 yards per carry.
2:26 Kyle Shanahan needs to call more shots down the field in the second half to make the Raiders pay for squatting on the short routes.
THIRD QUARTER
2:41 On 2nd and 6 from the 49ers 29, Purdy sails a pass over McCaffrey's head. Next play, Purdy checks down to McCaffrey for a loss of one, and the 49ers go three and out. They have to try to get the ball down the field. After the punt, the Raiders take over at their 16.
2:49 On 3rd and 4 from the Raides 40, Stidham scrambles to his left and throws a 60-yard touchdown pass to a wide open Adams. Busted coverage. The 49ers defense is playing terribly. They can't stop the run, which means they can't rush the quarterback, which means they can't cover well, which means they can't stop anything right now.
49ers 14, Raiders 24.
3:01 On 1st and 10 from the Raiders 14, McCaffrey runs around the right end for a touchdown. During the drive, Jauan Jennings made a 17-yard catch and Aiyuk gained 16 yards on a reverse.
49ers 21, Raiders 24.
3:08 On 3rd and 11 from the Raiders 24, Stidham completes a 10-yard pass to Adams, and the Raiders go 3 and out. Dre Greenlaw was shaken up during the play. After the punt, the 49ers take over at their 14.
3:15 On 1st and 10 from midfield, Purdy play fakes, rolls left, stops and throws deep across the field to George Kittle, but the ball hangs in the air and gets intercepted by Amik Robertson at the Raiders 18. Bad throw by Purdy. Great job by the cornerback. Kittle should have been able to knock that pass down.
3:20 Dre Greenlaw has a back injury and his return is questionable.
FOURTH QUARTER
3:24 On 2nd and 10 from the 49ers 46, Kerry Hyder tips Stidham's pass and Drake Jackson picks it off at the Raiders 42. Huge play.
3:28 On 3rd and 7 from the Raiders 25, Purdy throws deep and behind George Kittle, and the pass is incomplete. Jauan Jennings was open over the middle. Next play, Robbie Gould makes a 43-yard field goal to tie the game.
49ers 24, Raiders 24.
3:36 On 3rd and 9 from the Raiders 37, Stidham throws an incomplete deep pass intended for Adams. After the punt, the 49ers take over at their 35. That was a 28-yard punt.
3:46 On 3rd and 4 from the Raiders 6, Purdy stares down Kittle, who's double covered. Purdy throws it anyway and nearly gets picked off at the goal line. Ray Ray McCloud was open in the back of the end zone on the play. He also had a 42-yard gain on a screen pass. At the end of the drive, Gould makes a 24-yard field goal to give the 49ers the lead.
49ers 27, Raiders 24.
3:53 On 4th and 10 from the 49ers 39, the Raiders make a 57-yard field goal to tie the game. What a kick. There's 4:08 left.
49ers 27, Raiders 27.
3:59 On 2nd and 10 from the 49ers 48, Purdy completes a screen pass to McCaffrey, who runs for 38 yards. Next play, Purdy hands off to Jordan Mason, who scores from 14 yards out. The 49ers lead by a touchdown with 2:17 left. Let's see if the defense can close out the game.
49ers 34, Raiders 27.
4:10 On 1st and 20 from the Raiders 26, Deommodore Lenoir gives up a 45-yard catch to Adams. Next play, Fred Warner commits a pass interference penalty on Darren Waller in the end zone. Next play, Josh Jacobs walks into the end zone from 1-yard out with 1:11 left. Tie game. The 49ers defense has been horrendous today. Nick Bosa has been a ghost.
49ers 34, Raiders 34.
4:18 Robbie Gould misses a 41-yard field goal as time expires, and the game is going to overtime.
OVERTIME
4:20 The 49ers lose the toss and the Raiders elect to receive the kickoff.
4:27 On 2nd and 10 from the Raiders 40, Nick Bosa pushes left tackle Kolton Miller into Stidham as he throws, and the ball flutters and gets picked off by Tashaun Gibson, who returns it to the 4. Next score wins.
4:28 Gould makes a 24-yard field goal and the 49ers win. Stay tuned for their grades.
