SANTA CLARA -- This is the live blog for the San Francisco 49ers Week 5 game against the Miami Dolphins. I will update this frequently with information and analysis from Levi's Stadium.

11:35 Here are the 49ers inactives:

Wide receiver Dante Pettis.

Cornerback Emmanuel Moseley

Cornerback Dontae Johnson

Offensive lineman Tom Compton

Tight end Daniel Helm

Quarterback Nick Mullens

11:36 The 49ers called up wide receiver Kevin White from the practice squad on Saturday, and he's active for this game while Pettis isn't. Can someone please explain why Pettis is even on the 49ers? He does nothing, and the 49ers don't give him an opportunity to play. He must have zero trade value. Cut him already. He can't boost his trade value while he's inactive.

11:38 The 49ers starting cornerbacks most likely will be Jason Verrett and Ahkello Witherspoon with Jamar Taylor in the slot. Not great, but not awful. That trio should be good enough if all three stay healthy.

11:40 Expect the Dolphins to call lots of play-action bootleg passes toward Arik Armstead early in the game. Let's see if Armstead contains quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick or allows him to throw from outside the pocket. Teams will bootleg the 49ers defense to death until Armstead starts to play with discipline. I expect he'll be at his best and play a terrific game.

11:41 Here are the Dolphins inactives:

Running back Jordan Howard

Running back Salvon Ahmed

Defensive end Shaq Lawson

Tight end Durham Smythe

Defensive end Jason Strowbridge

Running back/wide receiver Malcom Perry

12:08 Both Raheem Mostert and Deebo Samuel are active. I'm confident the 49ers will score no fewer than 27 points.

12:47 Remember when I guessed Ahkello Witherspoon would start? Yeah, I was wrong. Apparently someone named Brian Allen is on the 49ers and will start opposite Jason Verrett. Well, bust my buttons.

12:57 Jimmy Garoppolo will not wear a brace on his surgically-repaired left knee. He wore one during the season opener against the Arizona Cardinals. I guess he has more confidence in the offensive line today with Ben Garland at center as opposed to Hroniss Grassu.

1:02 The Dolphins win the toss and defer. The 49ers will receive the opening kickoff.

FIRST QUARTER

1:06 On third and 6 from the 49ers 29-yard line, Garoppolo hesitates in the pocket and throws an incomplete pass intended for Jerick McKinnon. The 49ers go three and out. The Dolphins take over at their 23.

1:12 On second and goal from the 3, Kwon Alexander gives up a touchdown catch to Adam Shaheen.

49ers 0, Dolphins 7.

Miami attacked Brian Allen on the first play of the game with a deep pass to Preston Williams, and Williams caught a 47-yard pass. Four plays later, Allen commits a horse-collar penalty in the red zone. So he was responsible for giving up 56 yards on that drive. Will be interesting to see how the 49ers compensate for having such a liability on the field.

1:20 On fourth and one from the Dolphins 44, Jerick McKinnon runs between the tackles for no gain, and the 49ers turn the ball over on downs.

1:21 Trent Williams gave up a sack during that drive. He's having an awful season so far.

1:27 On second and goal from the 1, Myles Gaskin walks into the end zone.

49ers 0, Dolphins 14.

1:28 Allen gave up a 28-yard catch to Davante Parker during that drive. The 49ers have to bench Allen and play anyone else -- literally anyone. Ahkello Witherspoon or Tarvarius Moore would be an upgrade.

1:37 On third and 7 from the 49ers 42, Garoppolo throws an incomplete pass intended for Kendrick Bourne. Garoppolo has gotten sacked twice already. He looks jittery in the pocket and I don't blame him.

1:38 The Dolphins start from the 5.

1:40 The Dolphins will face second and 12 from their 3 when the second quarter starts.

SECOND QUARTER

1:45 On third and 10 from the Dolphins 5, Fitzpatrick completes a pass to Williams, but Allen tackles him two yards in front of the first-down marker, and the Dolphins punt. The 49ers get the ball at the Dolphins 49 after a 17-yard return by Trent Taylor.

1:51 On the first play of the drive, Raheem Mostert bursts around the left end for a 37-yard run. He has to be the MVP of this team. Two plays later, Kyle Juszczyk sprints into the end zone untouched from seven yards out.

49ers 7, Dolphins 14.

2:03 On third and goal from the 22, Fitzpatrick throws a touchdown pass to Davante Parker, who was covered man to man by Brian Allen. Allen wasn't even close. He let Parker blow right by him.

49ers 7, Dolphins 21.

2:11 On second and 6 from the Dolphins 40, Garoppolo takes his third sack of the game. The 49ers punt two plays later. The Dolphins take over at their 21.

2:17 On second and goal from the six, Fitzpatrick rolls to his right and Kwon Alexander sacks him for a three-yard loss. Two plays later, the Dolphins make a 26-yard field goal.

49ers 7, Dolphins 24.

2:24 On third and 10 from the 49ers 25, Jimmy Garoppolo sails a deep pass intended for Jerick McKinnon and gets intercepted by Bobby McCain.

2:27 The Dolphins make a 50-yard field goal.

49ers 7, Dolphins 27.

2:30 On third and 10 from the 49ers 25, Garoppolo sails a pass over Deebo Samuel and gets intercepted for the second time. The 49ers should bench him and play C.J. Beathard in the second half.

2:33 The Dolphins make a 29-yard field goal as the first half ends.

49ers 7, Dolphins 30.

THIRD QUARTER

2:51 On third and 2 from the Dolphins 44, Jakeem Grant drops a pass, and the Dolphins punt. The 49ers take over from their 26.

2:52. The 49ers have benched Garoppolo. C.J. Beathard is the new quarterback.

3:01 On first and 10 from the 49ers 19, Beathard rolls to his right and completes a pass in the flat to Bourne who dives into the end zone for a touchdown.

49ers 14, Dolphins 30.

3:11 On second and 8 from the 49ers 32, Fitzpatrick takes a big hit as he throws a touchdown pass to Preston Williams.

49ers 14, Dolphins 37.

3:12 Fitzpatrick is a better quarterback than Jimmy Garoppolo.

FOURTH QUARTER

3:26 Robbie Gould makes a 37-yard field goal.

49ers 17, Dolphins 37.

3:26 The 49ers don't have a franchise quarterback. This team's Super Bowl window may have shut.

3:43 The Dolphins make a 31-yard field goal after a nine-play drive.

49ers 17, Dolphins 40.

3:48 The 49ers go four and out. The Dolphins take over at the 49ers 33.

3:52 The Dolphins make a 49-yard field goal.

49ers 17, Dolphins 43.

3:59 Mike McGlinchey gives up a sack to Emmanuel Ogbah on second and 20 from the 49ers 42. The Dolphins recover.

4:06 Game over. The 49ers lose and fall to 2-3. They might not win another game until December. Stay tuned for their grades.
