The Good and Not So Good from Day 16 of 49ers Training Camp 2023

In this story:
SANTA CLARA -- Here's who stood out on Day 16 of 49ers training camp 2023.
THE GOOD
1. SS Talanoa Hufanga.
Nearly intercepted Brock Purdy in the back of the end zone. Purdy was under pressure and appeared to try to throw the ball away off his back foot, but he didn't throw the ball high enough, so Hufanga leaped and got both hands on the pass, but dropped it anyway. Hufanga struggles to catch the ball when he jumps.
2. NCB Isaiah Oliver.
Nearly made a diving interception on a pass from Purdy. Oliver read Purdy's eyes from zone coverage and dove in front of a short pass to Brandon Aiyuk who was running a slant. Big play by Oliver, who was one of the worst players on the field for the 49ers in their first preseason game.
3. TE Ross Dwelley.
Caught a touchdown pass from Purdy in the red zone. Dwelley ran a quick out route to the right and beat linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles for six. Dwelley is a quality backup tight end who should make the 53-man roster.
4. TE Troy Fumagalli.
Caught one of Trey Lance's three throws, and also should have made a deep catch down the middle of the field, but Sam Darnold airmailed him when he was wide open. Fumagalli might be the second-best tight end on the team -- he's had a terrific training camp. He absolutely should make the 53-man roster along with Dwelley, George Kittle and rookie Brayden Willis.
5. RB Ty Davis-Price.
Got even with nickelback Qwuatrezz Knight, who showed him up yesterday when Davis-Price was running with the ball and Knight hit him, but didn't knock him over. Still, after the play Knight flexed and talked trash in Davis-Price's face right in front of the offense's sideline. Christian McCaffrey immediately yelled at Knight, a practice squad player who is still fighting to make the 53-man roster. So today, Davis-Price took a handoff, ran between the tackles, found Knight and ran him over. Call that football justice. Both players popped up quickly and Knight patted Davis-Price on the helmet as if to say, 'Good hit.' I appreciate their sportsmanship.
THE NOT SO GOOD
1. TE Cameron Latu.
Didn't catch a pass, but he did drop two, so at least he got some action. Latu is a terrible tight end who is not an NFL player. The 49ers should waive him.
2. TE Charlie Woerner.
Didn't catch a pass, either, but he did commit a false start penalty, so at least he did something. Woerner is a terrible tight end who is not an NFL player. The 49ers should waive him.
