What the Ravens are Saying About Their Matchup With Brock Purdy

Brock Purdy may be viewed by some as a "system quarterback" but that isn't at all how the Ravens are viewing him when they face him and the 49ers.

Brock Purdy has easily been one of the best quarterbacks in the league this season.

It's why he is in the running to be the MVP. The narrative that he is a "system quarterback" or a "game manager" has always been foolish. And that is something that the Baltimore Ravens would agree with.

The San Francisco 49ers are set to host the Ravens on Christmas for Monday Night Football. Baltimore knows that they are going to be in for a tough battle when they face Purdy. Here is what they had to say on Wednesday on the matchup with him.

"I see a very good quarterback. He's playing at a very high level, leading a very high-level offense to great success," said head coach John Harbaugh. "He's playing winning football and operates his style. He sees things. He gets the ball out quick. He can make every throw. He throws a beautiful ball [and] moves around the pocket, scrambles when he needs to, throws on the run when he needs to, operates the system really well – all the things that I'm sure their coaches really want to see in a quarterback."

For the head coach to say this shows that he is not going to have the defense underestimating Purdy. It feels like a good portion of the season where defenses went into the game overlooking him and putting all the focus on the other players. But Purdy cannot be slept on. Not at this point.

"The word around the league is he's a system quarterback. I think that's not true," said safety Kyle Hamilton. "From what I've seen, he's making every throw you can make as a quarterback – on time, on target. He makes good decisions. He's mobile. He's got a great cast around him at the same time, but he's really good."

Baltimore fields one of the best defenses in the league. They have a solid front-seven along with an adequate secondary led by Hamilton. A lot of talent is on that side of the ball for the Ravens, so for Purdy to receive such praise for one of the best defenses (and teams) in the NFL is fantastic. The praise, however, doesn't stop at Hamilton.

"When you put on the film, he's putting throws right where he needs to be, he's reading coverages. He does a lot of good things," cornerback Marlon Humphrey said. "He's a guy that likes to give his receivers a chance. For such a young guy, he really handles himself like a pro. There won't be many gimme interceptions, but we'll try to take our chances when we can."

The Ravens and 49ers are both the No. 1 seed in their respective conferences. The fact that it is on Christmas in primetime sets the stage perfectly between two juggernauts. It is a game that should not disappoint.
