Bills 'Big Splash' Trade Coming on NFL Draft Night - Rumor

Are the Buffalo Bills preparing for an “aggressive” move up the NFL Draft board tonight?

Even as Buffalo Bills GM Brandon Beane recently suggested the likelihood of a move down in this NFL Draft is greater than a trade up, there is buzz about the aspiring AFC powerhouse making a "splash'' move.

The logic for that sort of thinking comes via Lance Zierlein, a draft analyst for NFL.com, who shared on a recent episode of the “Establish The Run” podcast that Buffalo being "that close'' to a Super Bowl is motivation for Beane to make a big move.

Said Zierlein: “I don’t think you get that close [to a Super Bowl] and not say, 'We need to take our shot right here.' And I think ... Buffalo could aggressively move up for somebody.”

Who might that somebody be? Zierlein has talked about ideas that hint on a trade-up for Texas running back Bijan Robinson as a standout new weapon for quarterback Josh Allen. But the devil is in the details here; Zierlein recently put together a mock that said that the Bills would trade with the Minnesota Vikings to move into the No. 23 spot to take Robinson.

Any problems with that? Yes, major ones. First, Robinson is not likely to last until the 20's; some teams think he might be the best player in the entire class. Therefore, to get him, Buffalo might have to move into the top 10. How much does that cost? Using most Trade Value Charts, that will cost the Bills picks in the first, second and third rounds.

Oh, and there is this: Minnesota might be trying to dump Dalvin Cook. If so ... why wouldn't the Vikings just take Bijan?

Nevertheless, that "buzz'' is out there, with Von Miller contributing via an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show insisting that a “big-time weapon” will soon be joining the roster.

“Word on the street is that we might be getting another big-time weapon,” Miller said, which makes for a lot of fun discussion involving a group of players topped by Arizona receiver DeAndre Hopkins. But "buzz'' and "splash,'' fun keywords though they are, don't make the team better. ... and that is the real goal of Draft Night as we are about to get started.
