Bills Host Arizona S Christian Young for Draft Dinner, Workout

The Buffalo Bills are going to great lengths to get to know Arizona Wildcats safety Christian Young ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft.

The Buffalo Bills are now eight days away from potentially making a first-round pick at No. 27 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft on Thursday, April 27. A trade would obviously changes these plans.

Buffalo could be in position to snag a high-value prospect at who-knows-what position, as the Bills are making it clear they're taking the "best player available" approach. Still, Bills general manager Brandon Beane was brutally honest Tuesday about the amount of first-round grades the team has in the draft class, admitting "it's not great."

This makes the later rounds increasingly important for a team like Buffalo that needs to continue to plug in rookies and build depth while remaining in the championship window. And the team may have found just that, as the Bills are apparently showing heavy interest in Arizona Wildcats safety Christian Young, per reports Tuesday from Syracuse.com.

"Buffalo had a private workout and dinner with Young and a team scout spent time with the safety following his pro day," Syracuse.com's Ryan Talbot wrote.

Despite not being a highly-known draft prospect in the class, the Bills have reportedly shown projections matter little when it comes to Young by hosting him to a dinner and holding a private workout. He has intrigue due to being a safety/linebacker hybrid at Arizona, but you don't see that every day for a guy that doesn't grade out high at a safety position that is already thin to begin with.

In five years at Arizona, the 6-3, 225-pound Young played in 48 games, totaling 182 tackles, nine tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and 11 pass breakups.

The Bills appear to be planning for the end of the draft, and could certainly take Young late if he's still there. His experience and versatility seems like something Buffalo doesn't want to pass up on.
