Bills Sign Jamaal Williams? Buffalo 'Very Interested' in Lions RB - Report

Should they sign Detroit Lions running back Jamaal Williams, the Buffalo Bills would be getting a guy who can both move the chains efficiently while being a beast around the goal line, as he led the league in rushing touchdowns this past season.

The Buffalo Bills have an unclear future at running back. But adding the league leader in rushing touchdowns from this past season could certainly help calm some nerves.

Per reports Saturday from GoLong.com, the Bills are one of the teams that are "very interested" to sign Detroit Lions running back Jamaal Williams in free agency this offseason.

Along with a potential return to Detroit, the New York Jets and Cincinnati Bengals are reportedly joining Buffalo as the teams with an eye on Williams.

The Bills haven't had a 1,000-yard rusher since LeSean McCoy in 2017. But should they sign Williams, the Bills would be getting a guy who can both move the chains efficiently and be a beast around the goal line. While finishing with the 11th-most rushing yards in the league this past season (1,066), Williams also led the NFL with 17 rushing touchdowns.

The guys right behind him? Big names like Tennessee Titans' Derrick Henry, Los Angeles Chargers' Austin Ekeler and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, who all had 13 rushing scores apiece.

Adding a guy like Williams would bring another essential veteran presence to an already experienced locker room. On a budding Lions team, Williams was one of the uncontested leaders who has never been afraid to wear his emotions on his sleeve.

But while his off-field impact would certainly be felt in Buffalo, Williams could also help mentor second-year running back James Cook while taking some of the pressure off the legs of quarterback Josh Allen at the goal line or in short-yardage scenarios.

Given all these factors, the Bills sound like a nice fit for Williams, though the love and confidence he's shown toward the Lions organization might make it hard to peel him away.
