Super Bowl ‘Window’ Rankings: Bills Disrespected?
The Buffalo Bills are still awaiting their first trip to the Super Bowl since the painful days of the early ‘90s, which saw the franchise lose in the big game a record-breaking four straight times.
Josh Allen and Co. haven’t been able to match the kind of success Jim Kelly’s squads had just yet, but there’s obviously no reason to worry … right?
Patience is still key even for a current perennial AFC contender like Buffalo, but NFL.com doesn't view the Bills as having the elite-level contending expectations that many around the league have become accustomed to seeing in Orchard Park.
The site released it's Super Bowl window rankings, which featured the eight teams with the best chance to win it all in the near future. But surprisingly, the Bills ranked at No. 7, ahead of only the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Here are the full rankings:
1. Kansas City Chiefs
2. Philadelphia Eagles
3. Cincinnati Bengals
4. San Francisco 49ers
5. Los Angeles Chargers
6. Dallas Cowboys
7. Buffalo Bills
8. Jacksonville Jaguars
While one could make the argument that the Bills should be above teams like the Cowboys and Chargers on this list, NFL.com says that the only reason Buffalo is this high is due to the "extraordinary talent" of Allen.
While Sean McDermott will need to make some hard decisions on personnel and tactics in 2023, Buffalo's championship window remains open due to No. 17's extraordinary talent as a spectacular passer with unique playmaking skills as a runner, particularly in the red zone. Given his prolific point-scoring prowess, Allen can keep the Bills in a game against any team on the schedule.
For the Bills, it remains a Super Bowl-or-bust approach for the foreseeable future, regardless of what some random offseason rankings say. But if the playoff disappointment continues, the championship window could be closing shut quicker than expected.
