Bills to Sign K Tyler Bass to Contract Extension? Insider Weighs In

In a league where finding kicking consistency can oftentimes be impossible, the Buffalo Bills would be wise to lock in kicker Tyler Bass for the future.

During recent successful seasons that have ended in postseason disappointment, the Buffalo Bills have obviously had areas of improvement to address since the end result wasn't a Super Bowl win.

But the kicking game hasn't exactly been one of them, a luxury many teams in the NFL would love to have.

As a result, one would think that Bills kicker Tyler Bass, who came up clutch with three game-winning kicks this past season, is deserving of a contract extension as he gets set to enter the final year of his deal in 2023.

Luckily for Bills Mafia, the franchise kicker could soon be due for an extension to keep him locked in at Orchard Park for the foreseeable future, per Buffalo News insider Jay Skurski.

"I wouldn’t expect anything to happen before the draft, but yes, there is a good possibility (general manager Brandon) Beane signs Bass to an extension before September," Skurski wrote recently in a column responding to questions from fans.

In an elite offense that still had its fair share of inconsistencies in 2022, Bass helped make up for it on special teams by going 27 of 31 on field goals (87.1 percent) and 48 of 50 on extra points. Considering the often horrible weather conditions in Buffalo, these numbers are certainly impressive in a league that sees kickers struggle with extra points.

"Bass has been excellent," Skurski said. "Kicking in Buffalo is simply a harder job than it is compared to most other NFL cities. Bass has shown he can do it. Re-signing him is one way for Beane to check something off his 2024 to-do list a little early."

Extending Bass isn't necessarily at the the top of the offseason checklist. But given how valuable he's proven he can be in a league where finding kicking consistency can oftentimes be impossible, the Bills will likely give it no time before solidifying him as their franchise kicker with a new deal.
