Sights, Sounds From Cardinals Red and White Practice

The Arizona Cardinals held their red and white practice today - here's our observations.

GLENDALE -- The Arizona Cardinals held their red and white practice in front of thousands of fans at State Farm Stadium on Saturday, giving everybody (including themselves) a taste of ramped up action before they begin preseason prep next week.

Earlier in the week, head coach Jonathan Gannon said the practice would be "full tilt", and while we did see the physicality turned up a notch, it barely felt different other than the other practices.

Truth be told, there were some rocky points. Gannon discussed the Cardinals inviting referees out to the practice with live, unscripted scenarios thrown at players with coaches being up in the booth for the first time.

It was an ultimate mix of penalties and mishaps, though we did see some nice things out on the field.

Injuries

  • No visible injuries happened during practice. Trey McBride, Geoff Swaim, Keaontay Ingram all did not participate. Marquise Brown suited up but did not participate in anything past individual drills, something he's done all camp.

Notable Plays

  • Zach Pascal came down with a tough catch over the middle on a post route where coverage was draped on him.
  • The newly signed Marlon Mack hasn't had over 24 hours to digest the new playbook but managed to break off a nice run up the middle on an inside zone read.
  • Brian Cobb made a great adjustment streaking down the left sideline on a jump ball and made a tough catch over the defender.
  • Clayton Tune connected to Greg Dortch on a smooth post route.
  • Kei"trel Clark saw Michael Wilson beat him on one rep before the very next play, where Clark jump an out route ran by Wilson and smacked the ball away.
  • Isaiah Simmons nearly came down with an overthrown pass at the back of the end zone but couldn't quite hold on.
  • James Conner made an incredibly tough catch over Budda Baker in the corner of the end zone for a touchdown.
  • Michael Wilson showed off his agility on a double-move that saw him walk in for an easy touchdown near the end of practice.

Other Notes

  • No crazy changes or revelations today in terms of starters. Christian Matthew started opposite of Marco Wilson before Kei'Trel Clark saw starting reps later in the period. Dennis Gardeck was opposite of Zaven Collins on the edge.
  • Elijah Wilkinson started at left guard but Dennis Daley saw some work with the first team later in practice.
  • With no Swaim or McBride, it was Noah Togiai handling TE1 duties for the Cardinals.
  • Clayton Tune rolled with the second team today while Jeff Driskel ran with the three's.
  • On the second team offensive line, Jon Gaines (who was playing at RG) played at center.
