Staff Predictions: Can Cardinals Upset Giants?

The Arizona Cardinals are again underdogs as the New York Giants come to town. Who will win?

Who: New York Giants (0-1) at Arizona Cardinals (0-1)
When: Sunday, Sept. 17 at 1:05 PM Arizona Time
Where: State Farm Stadium, Glendale, AZ
Spread: Giants -4.5

The Arizona Cardinals are set to play their home opener in Week 2 when the New York Giants come to town, and head coach Jonathan Gannon has high expectations for the first home crowd of the season.

“I can’t wait. I want it to be live when we’re on defense and quiet when we’re on offense, so pass the word along," said Gannon earlier this week.

Budda Baker says if you work - let him know. He'll try to help out.

"If you guys have a job on Sunday, let me know. Message me, fans, I'll try to get you the off day and let's have a good time. Most importantly, let's get a W."

After narrowly pulling off the upset last week against the Washington Commanders, will the Cardinals play the role of spoiler successfully against New York?

Some believe this could be a potential trap game for the Giants after being embarrassed on Sunday Night Football last week.

Who will emerge victorious?

Cardinals-Giants Staff Predictions

Donnie Druin: The Arizona Cardinals nearly upset the Washington Commanders on the road as the second-largest underdogs in Week 1. Now - returning home against a New York Giants squad that was blown out in 40-0 fashion - can they successfully pull off the upset? It's still early in the season and hope is in the air... Count me in this week on the Cardinals improving offensively. Cardinals 23, Giants 20

Richie Bradshaw: The Cardinals put up a great fight against the Commanders to open their season, but the Giants couldn't say the same against the Cowboys. The birds are back at State Farm Stadium for this game and should be feeling pretty confident of themselves following their slugfest with Washington. The Giants are certainly the more talented team, but could they be caught sleeping? Methinks that may be the case... Cardinals 20, Giants 17

Kevin Hicks: The Cardinals are making their 2023 home debut to the tune of little to no pressure. The Giants, on the other hand, have the weight of East Rutherford on their shoulders come Sunday. Many consider this to be a must-win game to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Cardinals will keep this game competitive, and perhaps may even lead at various points, but it's hard not to imagine Saquon Barkley and potentially Darren Waller making enough plays to squeak out a win for New York. Graham Gano hits a field goal late to win for the blue. Cardinals 17, Giants 19

Alex D'Agostino: The Arizona Cardinals have a history of beating up on the Giants. In their last meeting, the birds racked up 8 sacks on Daniel Jones and Colt McCoy. Following a week where the Cards' pass-rush dominated Washington's OL, look for similar pressure to be put on Daniel Jones this week. But I doubt lightning strikes twice for the Giants. New York is looking to bounce back from an embarrassing loss to Dallas, and Arizona's run D could easily fall victim to a Saquon masterclass performance. It won't be an ugly loss, but the Giants could use this game to "get right." Unless Dobbs and Conner both get cooking, I have the Giants taking this one. Cardinals 17, Giants 23
