The sweepstakes for former Arizona Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins is officially on thanks to his recent release from the team.

Hopkins is now free to sign anywhere - though many believe he will opt to land with a team that gives him a top chance to play for a Super Bowl.

As such, teams like the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs are considered to be the top two squads to fight for Hopkins' services.

A fit with Buffalo makes sense in a lot of ways. The Bills are desperately trying to reach their first Super Bowl in decades, and Hopkins could slide into an offense that features Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs.

There's been plenty of connections between Hopkins and Buffalo throughout the offseason that lead many to believe the Bills are the leaders in the clubhouse

However, ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that perhaps the Bills aren't truly in the mix.

On his podcast, Schefter pointed towards money as a major obstacle in the way.

"As for the Buffalo Bills and DeAndre Hopkins, the way it was explained to me, is people doubt he will wind up in Buffalo. They never say never, but if he wants his money I don't think he'll get it in Buffalo." (h/t Stadium).

Money was a major obstacle for teams trying to acquire Hopkins prior to his release. He was due $19.45 million this upcoming season and reportedly does not want to come down far from that number, especially after seeing Odell Beckham Jr. get $15 million from the Baltimore Ravens.

Hopkins - who has represented himself in the past- has sought multiple outside parties to solicit advice and help negotiations.
