Insider Predicts Cardinals, Giants Trade

ARIZONA -- When it comes to potential trades during the 2024 NFL Draft, look no further than the Arizona Cardinals.

Since the No. 4 pick fell to their possession, general manager Monti Ossenfort has been at the helm of trade speculation with teams such as the Minnesota Vikings and Denver Broncos tied with a potential pick-swap.

Arizona would seemingly only move out of the pick for a quarterback-needy team willing to offload hefty draft capital, and while the Vikings/Broncos have dominated trade discussions with Arizona, the New York Giants are a team to watch according to one NFL insider.

Fox Sports' Peter Schrager has the Cardinals moving down to the No. 6 spot in the first round in his latest mock draft, allowing New York to climb two spots to draft Michigan QB JJ McCarthy.

Schrager specified that the mock draft is not what he would personally do, but what he's heard around the league from NFL head coaches and general managers.

"New York moves up two spots -- tossing Arizona this year's third-round pick (No. 70 overall) and next year's second-rounder -- to land McCarthy. This is merely a mock draft, but I could see this deal coming to fruition. Joe Schoen didn't draft Daniel Jones, J.J. checks a lot of boxes, and Big Blue can get out of Jones' contract after this upcoming season. I assume that this projection could make headlines in New York. That's fine. I know the Giants have been going through all of the quarterback prospects diligently, as they should be," said Schrager before addressing Arizona's pick, which was Washington WR Rome Odunze.

"The Cardinals trade back two spots, yet still scoop up a No. 1 wideout for Kyler Murray. Odunze's a tough, smart player -- the perfect kind of building block for this franchise in this moment."

Marvin Harrison Jr. went No. 5 to the Los Angeles Chargers in the mock draft.

Arizona reportedly loved Odunze during his visit with the team, and he checks all the Jonathan Gannon boxes from high football character to having a big frame for Murray to target.

The reported asking price for Arizona to move down has been three first-round picks, but those have been conversations with teams outside of the top ten. As Schrager points out, the Cardinals simply wouldn't get that for only moving down two spots.

"If AZ traded with NYG, it'd be for less than with Minn, Den, or LV. 3 firsts for a team at 11, 12, or 13. Sure. A trade with NYG means 6th overall pick & Arizona would still get one of the top OT's, the top defensive player, or 2 of the 3 top WR's," he wrote on Twitter/X.

The 2024 NFL Draft begins on April 25.
