Cardinals Are Team With Surprise Potential in NFL Draft

ARIZONA -- It feels like there's two schools of thought when it comes to the Arizona Cardinals and the No. 4 selection in the 2024 NFL Draft: Either they trade down and receive massive compensation as a result or they stick and take Ohio State WR Marvin Harrison Jr..

Any direction the Cardinals choose feels like a win, though The 33rd Team hinted at the possibility of a shocking move general manager Monti Ossenfort may opt for in selecting Alabama edge rusher Dallas Turner:

"The collective football world expects the Arizona Cardinals to sit tight at No. 4 with a mouth-watering glare at the best receivers in the nation. The idea of passing on Harrison or Nabers is inconceivable. But is it really after looking at Arizona's roster and considering how many picks they have to fill their need for playmaking later?" wrote Ian Valentino.

"The top front-seven defensive prospect in the class is Dallas Turner. Turner, who was in Will Anderson Jr.'s shadow until 2023, put up a legendary combine performance and projects perfectly in Jonathan Gannon's defense. Plus, it's as weak of a pass-rusher class as we've seen in years, so Arizona might feel it's Turner or bust at the position.

"They might be able to make a small trade down without losing Turner, but Atlanta at No. 8 overall looms as another fit."

Should the Cardinals move down a few spots and take Turner, it wouldn't exactly be the most shocking revelation. Arizona ranked 30th in quarterback sacks last season and desperately need help getting to the passer - and if you're looking for an edge player in this draft - Turner is the way to go.

Yet it feels like the Cardinals are prioritizing a WR with their first selection, as Arizona needs a true weapon to pair with Michael Wilson and Greg Dortch in their recieving corps. They let Marquise Brown and Rondale Moore depart this offseason with no true answer to fill those voids, and even with their presence, the Cardinals still needed a legitimate weapon out wide for Kyler Murray.

The draft will continue to be one of football's greatest spectacles purely thanks to the mystery it carries, and though the Cardinals can use any upgrades possible with their 11 total selections, Turner going early to Arizona would indeed fit the "shocking" bill with prominent wideouts on the board.
