Chargers News: Brandon Staley Tops List of Coaches with Most to Prove

It's put up or shut up time for Staley and the Chargers this season.

After the Los Angeles Chargers blew the 27-0 lead in their playoff game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, there were many calls for the organization to fire head coach Brandon Staley. The front office decided against it, and Staley now enters the upcoming season on the hot seat.

He was hired to help take this Chargers team to the next level, but at least so far, he has underwhelmed. This season will tell us a lot about who Staley is as a head coach and whether or not he will stay in Los Angeles.

The Athletic NFL Staff took a poll, and multiple members listed the Chargers head coach as the coach with the most to prove this coming season.

“The questions about the Brandon Staley experiment in Los Angeles feel like they’ll get the loudest if they get bounced early again.”

Per Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic

They brought in Kellen Moore as the new offensive coordinator, a move LA is banking on to help their offensive issues. The Chargers had weird lapses on offense during games last season, which ultimately cost them in the playoffs.

However, bringing Moore in may have extra motives than just him being the new offensive coordinator. He could easily succeed Staley as the head coach of this team if Staley is let go in the offseason.

Moore has been a name on the head coaching market for a couple of years now, and this could be a chance for him. The Bolts' management may like the fact that he is experienced and will have had an entire season with the organization.

This is just something to watch as the season progresses onward. But Staley's days could be numbered with the Chargers.

“Brandon Staley. Third year with Justin Herbert in L.A. and only an epic wild-card meltdown is on his resume.”

Per Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic

The team has all the pieces needed to find success, but they need to go out and prove it. There has been plenty of talk from this organization, so now it's put up or shut up time.

If the Bolts don't improve from last year, there could be changes made in the offseason. Staley would be the first one to go, so time is of the essence this year.
