Following their 0-2 start to the new season, the Los Angeles Chargers find themselves in a deep hole within the AFC playoff picture. While it is still early in the year, history isn't on their side, as the majority of teams that started a season dropping the first two games don't typically make the postseason.

But this Chargers team believes that they can defy the odds. They lost two close games and ones that they could have won. It is what has made their awful start so frustrating for everyone involved.

Because of the rough start to the season, the Bolts have seen themselves fall in most NFL power rankings. While power rankings don't mean much in the grand scheme of things, they do reflect where teams currently are.

The highest that the Chargers are ranked from most of the reputable places is 17th overall over at ESPN. It seems they are giving the Bolts the benefit of the doubt since they were missing some key players against the Tennessee Titans over the weekend.

The lowest ranking for the Bolts comes from Sporting News, where they are ranked 24th overall.

“The Chargers keep falling apart in close games. One possession isn’t their friend and now they’re 0-2 with surprisingly bad defense under Brandon Staley, He may not be the right guy to win the biggest with Justin Herbert”

Per Vinnie Iyer of Sporting News

Multiple power rankings mention head coach Brandon Staley, and the common narrative is that he needs to be let go as the head coach. Staley entered the season on the hot seat, and things have only worsened for him through the first two weeks of the year.

“Brandon Staley has to go. The Los Angeles Chargers should’ve done it in January after Staley’s team blew a three-score lead in the AFC Wild Card Game. Instead, he was allowed to stick around. It’s unfortunate because a great coach could likely turn the Chargers into a Super Bowl contender. Instead, this becomes a “What if?” roster.”

Per Matt Johnson of Sportsnaut

If things don't change soon, there will be big changes made. The Bolts are too talented of a team to be in the position they find themselves in, so their week three matchup against the Minnesota Vikings is already being looked at as a must-win this early into the season.
