Chargers News: PFF Lists LA's Biggest Strength and Weakness For 2023

2022 was a good season for the Los Angeles Chargers but considering how it ended, 2023 becomes all that much more important. After blowing a major lead in the AFC Wild Card game to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles entered the offseason with some questions and are now looking ahead to 2023. Pro Football Focus has named the biggest strengths and weaknesses for the Chargers entering the year.
Clearly the strength of this team is the offense. Led by quarterback Justin Herbert, the Chargers boast one of the most feared attacks in the game. Herbert's ability to sling the ball all around the field makes him a top player in the NFL.
He has a plethora of weapons to throw too as well. From Mike Williams, Keenan Allen, running back Austin Ekeler and new rookie receiver Quentin Johnson, the Chargers should have no shortage of offense. Additionally, they brought in Kellen Moore as the new offensive coordinator to try and make sure what happened in the playoffs last season, never happens again.
However, even with the explosive offensive attack, they still have question marks. Defensive wins championships and the secondary for Los Angeles is free game for questions.
On paper, they have a talented secondary but before we can crown them as a top unit, we need to see it out on the field. Big offseason signee from two years ago, JC Jackson, needs to have a rebound year. He dealt with some injuries last season and theoretically should be better in 2023. For this unit to get where they want to go, he has too be better.
Additionally, seeing more growth from corner Asante Samuel, Jr. will be key for the team. He had two interceptions last season and 57 combined tackles. Samuel Jr. was given a 63.6 rating from PFF and will be looking to improve his overall game.
The Chargers will be in conversation for the playoffs and very well could be a top player in the AFC. However, their success will ultimately fall on whether or not the secondary can do their part and find ways to succeed.
