Chargers injury updates after the latest preseason game are not a good look.

The Los Angeles Chargers can’t catch a break in the injury department.

Talk about an evergreen statement.

Those Chargers lost Tyler Biadasz to serious injury during practice this week, then went out and flopped hard in a 41-17 beatdown at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers in Week 2 of the preseason.

Along the way, the Chargers suffered more notable injuries to some big names. To make matters even worse, head coach Jim Harbaugh provided some injury updates of his own in the postgame presser that are quite notable.

Here’s a quick rundown.

Chargers injury updates after 49ers encounter

Brenen Thompson

The rookie draft pick speedster by Mike McDaniel left the game and needed a trip to the blue medical tent before heading to the locker room with trainers. He caught one pass for nine yards on two targets. The Chargers are counting on him to see some rotational snaps in the base offense and don’t have a comparable replacement.

Branson Taylor

The biggest riser of training camp, Branson Taylor remained down after getting hurt and needed the help of trainers to leave the field after suffering what appeared to be an arm or shoulder injury. A former practice squad player, Taylor was a shocker of a story while getting first-team reps at left guard. Health willing, he’s firmly in the race with Kayode Awoskia for the Week 1 starting job, especially now that rookie Jake Slaughter had to kick over to center with Biadasz injured.

KeAndre Lambert Smith

No word on an official injury for KeAndre Lambert Smith, but the broadcast was obvious enough: He took a shot to the midsection and then was seen on the sidelines in pain. The promising fifth-round pick from last year is still fighting to prove himself in McDaniel’s offense while the rookie Thompson quickly ascends to first-team reps, so he can’t afford to miss time.

Akheem Mesidor

Chargers first-round pick Akheem Mesidor has missed multiple practices in a row and then didn’t suit up against the 49ers. According to ESPN’s Kris Rhim, Harbaugh admitted after the game that Mesidor is “dealing with something,” but that he should be back at practice over the weekend. Given his draft status and talent, hard to understate how important this one is to watch.

Tyler Biadasz

Tyler Biadasz is very obviously out for a long time. But it’s worth noting that Harbaugh dropped this in his postgame presser, according to Eric Smith of Chargers.com: “Not putting a label on it but it doesn’t look promising.”
