Chargers Roster Spotlights: Josh Harris & Peter Bowden, A Young Prodigy and Legendary Veteran

In this story:
Josh Harris, born on April 27, 1989, in Fulda, Germany, played his high school ball at Carrollton High School, where he was a three-sport athlete, playing in football, wrestling and baseball. Unfortunately, Harris was not heavily recruited, being a zero-star recruit, according to 247Sports.
Even with this, Harris was able to enroll at Auburn, fighting for the team's long snapper job. He finally would play in 2009 earning four tackles in 13 games, then winning the BCS National Championship alongside Cam Newton in 2010. 2011 was Harris' final season with the program, earning three tackles as the team
Harris would go undrafted following the 2012 NFL Draft, finding himself with the Atlanta Falcons competing for a roster spot. He would win the spot and spend the next ten seasons with the team, helping the team make it to the infamous 2016 Super Bowl.
Harris also earned a Pro Bowl and Second-Team All-Pro honors in 2021, right before he was eligible for a contract extension.
Chargers Josh Harris, LS Auburn
The Bolts' saw the All-Pro veteran on the market and signed him to a then-market resetting contract, in hopes of him bolstering their weak special teams unit. Harris would do exactly such, continuing his dominance as one of the league's best long snappers, turning around the Chargers special teams unit.
This was especially seen when Harris went down with injury in 2025, missing nine games. Fans instantly saw his impact when he was replaced by long snappers found off the streets of NFL free agency.

Josh Harris' 2026 Season Outlook
Harris is getting "long in the tooth" with his age, turning 37 for the 2026 NFL season. His contract reflects this, as he only got a one year extension with the Bolts. He will return as the starting long snapper for the year, and help hold down this special teams unit for likely one last season.
Peter Bowden
Peter Bowden, born on January 24, 2001, in San Diego, California, played his high school ball at Francis Parker School, where he would actually begin long snapping to help his cousin who was a punter, produce film for recruiters. Sanborn would make the league in 2024 and spend time in the NFL and UFL.
Bowden would eventually start on varsity as a Long Snapper after finding a "knack" for the position. He would also play offensive line and a front-seven defensive position. He did this while also playing baseball, earning five-star status at Chris Rubio's long snapping camp, but zero-star recruiting status according to 247Sports.
Either way, Bowden found himself with the Wisconsin Badgers, where he would redshirt in 2019 and play behind another long snapper in 2020. Finally, in 2021, he would play all 13 games, recording a tackle. 2022 saw Bowden once again start, being named a semifinalist for the Patrick Mannelly Award (best long snapper award). Bowden would play one final season with the Badgers, being one of three finalists for the Patrick Mannelly Award and declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft.
Bowden would go undrafted but would go to the Green Bay Packers, where he would be in and out of the door multiple times, doing the same with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He would eventually go to the UFL, playing for the Michigan Panthers, helping them reach a championship in 2025.
Chargers Peter Bowden, LS
The Los Angeles Chargers saw the prodigy long snapper on the streets, and have signed him a few times to different contracts, being on the practice squad, then on a futures contract, then finally being re-signed to a league minimum deal most recently on July 28.

Peter Bowden's 2026 Season Outlook
Bowden is the clear second option at Long Snapper for the Bolts, as he is more of a body to take reps off for the veteran Josh Harris. He is likely to be the first name to call if Harris goes down with an injury once more or if he were to retire within the next 12 months.
