Chargers News: USA Today Predicts Underwhelming Season by The Bolts

In this story:

Training camp is underway, Charger fans. This signifies the start of the new season and possibly the biggest year for your Bolts.

It is a new and exciting time for the team and fans, and we cannot wait to see how this team fleshes out. There will be a lot of eyes on the Chargers as they will try to get over the hump of their franchise woes.

Many experts and pundits believe they will have a successful season; however, some aren't sold on the Bolts as Super Bowl contenders, per se. But then, you have a few who either say something to get their name out there or genuinely believe what they say or write. If that's the case, you could add in USA Today's Nate Davis, who projected records for all 32 NFL teams and has your Chargers heavily underwhelming in 2023.

Los Angeles Chargers (7-10):

Glass half-full, they progressed to postseason in 2022. Glass half-empty, the past two seasons under HC Brandon Staley have concluded with unmitigated disasters, worthy of the Bolts’ tortured history. Maybe Staley’s underachieving defense, which completely collapsed in the playoff loss to Jacksonville, improves. Maybe QB Justin Herbert fully blooms into an MVP candidate under first-year OC Kellen Moore. Maybe they won’t fold under the pressure of playing six prime-time games. Yep, per usual, probably too many “maybes” for the Chargers to overcome.

Yes, you seen that right, Charger fans. Davis believes LA will go 7-10 after a season in which they went 10-7 with a depleted roster that included a hobbled Justin Herbert, who still put up good numbers.

Yeah, I think this is all for clout. There is no way the Chargers underperform this massively, especially if they are healthy. What I'm saying may correlate with Davis' 'maybe' argument, but that's the case with every team. If you miss some of your best players for a significant time, your team isn't going to do as well. That's the cold hard truth.

With expectations comes pressure, and the Chargers certainly have that, but it comes with reason. LA has all they need to be one of the best teams in the NFL; however, they must show it on the gridiron instead of on paper this time around.

There is no question that this is a monster season for LA; it's put-up or shut-up time, and we'll see if they can live up to it.
