NFL Mock Draft: Chiefs Stock Up in the Third Round

In this three-round mock draft, the Kansas City Chiefs are predicted to use both of their third-round picks on addressing both of their lines with Deone Walker and Wyatt Milum.

In this story:

The Kansas City Chiefs have less than a week to decide who they'll be taking in the NFL draft. Their rookie class last year was headlined by Xavier Worthy, a player they traded up for, and he had one of his best performances of the season in the Super Bowl.

The Chiefs have been a dominant team for many years, but as a result of that, they are now beginning to get a bit older overall as a team, and the young players they draft are beginning to expect huge contracts for their contributions.

If the Chiefs want to remain competitive and continue to give Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid opportunities to win Super Bowls, this draft is of the utmost importance. They're coming off an embarrassing loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, and their attitude for next season should be to get revenge across the league.

Mike Renner is a sports writer for CBS Sports, and he released a three-round mock draft, which I've been covering for the past few days. In the first round, he predicted they'd draft Will Johnson, followed up by Elijah Arroyo in the second round, and he predicts they'll stock up both of their lines in the third round by selecting Deone Walker and Wyatt Milum.

Walker is a defensive line prospect from the University of Kentucky and played with them for three years, and displayed consistency and a drive to rush past the offensive line and get to the quarterback.

In 2024, he was out due to injury for a couple of games, but was still able to rack up 37 total tackles, defended against two passes, and got 1.5 sacks. His best year came in 2023 with 55 total tackles, 7.5 sacks, and defended against two passes the year prior as well.

Milum has been linked to the Chiefs before, but it was in a mock draft where they took him in the second round. Acquiring him in the third would be immense value for a team that desperately needs to bolster its offensive line. The Chiefs need to address their offensive line problem before the third round, but Milum is a good pickup regardless of where he's drafted.
