KC Chiefs Elevate RB La'Mical Perine for Game Against Miami Dolphins in Germany

In this story:
The Kansas City Chiefs made a roster move for Sunday morning's matchup with the Miami Dolphins in Frankfurt, Germany. After ruling out running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire with an illness, the Chiefs had a choice to make with their two preseason favorites who landed a spot on the team's practice squad.
The Chiefs have elevated running back La'Mical Perine from the practice squad, according to Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest. Perine gets the nod over rookie running back Deneric Prince, who also earned some preseason hype as an undrafted free agent.
Perine, at 25 years old, is in his fourth season after being a fourth-round pick by the New York Jets in the 2020 NFL Draft, the same draft class as Edwards-Helaire. Perine only appeared in 14 games with the Jets in 2020 and 2021 before spending time on the Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins practice squads.
The Chiefs signed Perine to the practice squad in January 2023 and to a reserve/future contract in February. He was waived after training camp at roster cutdowns but was promptly signed to the practice squad. This projects to be Perine's first active NFL action with the Chiefs and could potentially bring his first catch or carry since 2021.
Perine led the Chiefs in rushing yards this preseason, recording 97 yards on 16 carries, averaging 6.1 yards per carry, also leading Chiefs with more than two carries in the preseason.
His role on Sunday will be interesting to monitor, as Edwards-Helaire has seen a significantly lowered snap count this year as the Chiefs' third running back. Edwards-Helaire has taken fewer than 10 offensive snaps every week since KC's Week 3 drubbing of the Chicago Bears, when he played 23 snaps. From Weeks 4 through 8, Edwards-Helaire has played a total of 33 snaps (averaging 6.6 per game).
