Colts’ Richardson, Kelly Take Step Toward Playing Sunday vs. Rams

In this story:
The Indianapolis Colts were able to defeat the Baltimore Ravens last Sunday without quarterback Anthony Richardson and center Ryan Kelly as they sat out with concussions. However, this isn’t ideally how the Colts want to win, even if replacements Gardner Minshew and Wesley French played well in relief.
However, it looks as if both key starters are heading in the right direction to return to action against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.
Richardson and Kelly both returning to the practice field today is a great sign. Entering the last few stages of the concussion protocol. https://t.co/vNm9NbbFnQ

Horseshoe Huddle’s Andrew Moore says, “Richardson and Kelly both returning to the practice field today is a great sign. Entering the last few stages of the concussion protocol.”
While Richardson and Kelly will remain in the concussion protocol as they return to practice, it’s the final stages before getting cleared.
This is a great sign for the Colts ahead of their matchup with the Rams at Lucas Oil Stadium on Oct. 1. The Rams aren’t a joke defensively, sitting at seventh in the league in total yards allowed per game with 284.7.
They’re also solid against the passing attack. Through 2023, they’ve only allowed 543 yards through the air, good enough for seventh in the NFL, as well. The Colts will need both Kelly and Richardson against Aaron Donald and a top-10 pass defense.
Where the Rams have a weakness is against the run. Currently, they rank 13th in rushing yards allowed per game with 103.7. With Kelly anchoring the offensive line and Richardson being a factor in the ground game, it could give Indianapolis the advantage. Also, running back Zack Moss has been on a tear through his two games with 210 rushing yards (105 yards per game) and shows no signs of slowing down so far.
If everything can add up to getting Richardson and Kelly back on the field then the Colts have a good chance of sending the Rams to 1-3 and themselves to 3-1. All eyes will be on the injury report and practice updates to see how Richardson and Kelly are progressing towards a much-anticipated return to the field.
