Dak Doubters? Cowboys Mike McCarthy Has 'Zero Concerns' With Prescott Production

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has come under heavy criticism for his performance against Green Bay, but Mike McCarthy has no concerns.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott had people coming at him from every angle after the Cowboys surrendered a 14-point fourth-quarter lead in an OT loss at the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

In just his third game back from a thumb injury that sidelined him for five weeks, Prescott had his team rolling until a collapse of epic proportions during the fourth quarter and overtime at Lambeau Field.

Despite many of Prescott's detractors queuing up to take shots, head coach Mike McCarthy has no concerns over Dak's production.

"His best days are ahead of him," McCarthy said. "I'm excited to work with him every day, what he brings to the table. He's our quarterback, and I get the evaluation that we have to go through, but I have zero concerns for him."

Those "evaluations" are in part about the poorly-timed interceptions involving the Cowboys star. But despite the errors from Prescott (and his route-runners), McCarthy still sees plenty of value.

"There's so many things that all of these quarterbacks do in the National Football League that don't show up in the stats," McCarthy said. "You have to recognize (the other things that are) part of their value."

But, added the coach, "We talked very openly about the two interceptions. We all understand what happened there. I think the thing is what we focus on is all the little details. These are the things that keep me up at night, all the little stuff."

Prescott threw for 265 yards and three touchdowns along with the interceptions. He also had his team up by 14 points entering the fourth quarter at Lambeau, which is an accomplishment. ... until it wasn't.

What has perhaps gotten lost in all the Prescott bludgeoning is that he's only three games into his mini "comeback," McCarthy also alluded to something else that may have slipped people's minds.

"He hadn't played an away game this year, hadn't been outside since Philadelphia (last season)," McCarthy said. "People want to know what happened? The first couple throws, the feet, and everything wasn't quite right, but once he got going, I thought he did a lot of really good things."

Prescott and his Cowboys will get a chance to atone for the monumental collapse at Green Bay when they travel to face Kirk Cousins and the 8-1 Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. ... a chance for Dak to reward his coach's confidence and silence the many critics.
