'Call the Ones You Love': Dak Prescott Cowboys Message; Damar Hamlin Update

"Tomorrow is not guaranteed'' is a concept that rings true in the wake of the scary situation that unfolded on "Monday Night Football" between the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals when Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field as he suffered a cardiac arrest.

Hamlin is progressing on his road to recovery, but like the rest of the world, the Dallas Cowboys are preaching the importance of not taking life for granted.

"Call the ones you love," Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy and quarterback Dak Prescott both said on a few occasions in recent days. "Tell them you love them."

McCarthy and company took a break from the normal day-to-day game-focused team meetings on Wednesday and gave the floor to team chaplain Jonathan Evans instead.

Why?

"I thought his spiritual guidance is what we needed, ..." McCarthy told us. "Our spirituality playbook was open today."

Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb touched on how the incident affected his relationship with his family.

“My grandmother literally called me the second it happened," Lamb said. "She's been calling me every day since. Just tell everyone that you love them and just be mindful. You never know what anybody is going through or about to go through.”

The Cowboys will travel to Washington with their loved ones and Hamlin in mind as they take on the Washington Commanders at 3:25 p.m. (CT) on Sunday. And even former Cowboys are of the same mind.

"It's what you do,'' said Hall of Fame candidate Darren Woodson, speaking to us at The Star on Thursday. "It's what football players have been doing since Day 1. You know the risks that are out there. We're going to pray for Damar Hamlin and his family. But we're cut from this cloth and you can ask some of the guys out on the field, yeah they're thinking about it, but they're going to walk out there and put the cleats on and the helmet on and went back to work.

'It's just part of who you are."
