In this story:

The Miami Dolphins had a lot of good news on their injury report Thursday with the return of five players to practice.

That included safety Jevon Holland, who practiced with a red (no-contact jersey) because he's in concussion protocol, and guard Robert Jones, who missed practice Wednesday because of personal reasons and was removed entirely from the injury report.

WR Tyreek Hill (hip), RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) and FB Alec Ingold (foot) also were back at practice, but like Holland were limited in their participation.

The only other change on the Dolphins injury report from Wednesday was rookie CB Cam Smith not practice after sustaining a foot injury in practice.

Limited for a second consecutive day were WR River Cracraft (shoulder), CB Xavien Howard (groin), CB Kader Kohou (neck), CB Nik Needham (Achilles), CB Jalen Ramsey (knee), WR Jaylen Waddle (back) and OL Connor Williams (groin).

NEW ENGLAND INJURY REPORT

The Patriots added a new player on their injury report Thursday, with OL Vederian Lowe listed as limited with an ankle injury.

OL Calvin Anderson (illness) and RB Ty Montgomery (personal) were the only two players who didn't practice Thursday, while 10 others were limited.

Those limited were: DL Christian Barmore (knee), OL Trent Brown (ankle/knee), DT Davon Godchaux (ankle), TE Hunter Henry (ankle), CB Jonathan Jones (knee), G Cole Strange (knee), LB Josh Uche (ankle/toe), CB Shaun Wade (shoulder), DL Keion White (concussion) and DL Deatrich Wise Jr. (shoulder).

OGBAH'S OUTLOOK

One of the storylines for the Dolphins defense has been the limited usage of edge defender Emmanuel Ogbah in light of the fact he had nine sacks in both 2020 and 2021 and the fact he has the highest 2023 salary on the roster.

Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio says Ogbah getting only 26 percent of the defensive snaps simply is a matter of the depth at Ogbah's position.

“We’ve got a lot of confidence in him," Fangio said. "Right now, when we’ve got the lineup we had the other night, with ‘Gink’ (Andrew Van Ginkel) playing primarily on the outside and (David) Long playing better inside, it just makes it hard to get a fourth guy in there some.”

JACKSON REMATCH

The Dolphins game against the Patriots, of course, will be a rematch of the Week 2 game at Gillette Stadium, but it will be a different kind of rematch for J.C. Jackson.

In Week 1, Jackson was a member of the L.A. Chargers and was front and center in the Dolphins' 36-34 victory at SoFi Stadium a couple of weeks before he was traded back to the Patriots, where he enjoyed some really good years before struggling with the Chargers.

Jackson had an interception against the Dolphins in Week 1, but also was beaten deep for a touchdown by Tyreek Hill and committed a pass interference that allowed the Dolphins to kick a field goal on the last play of the first half.

Jackson, though, apparently has no interest in revisiting that game.

Speaking to New England reporters Thursday, he was asked about the Dolphins offense. His reply: “I don’t want to talk about the Dolphins.”

THE LONG VIEW

While Jalen Ramsey continues to ramp up his work toward a possible Dolphins debut, the one player who went to the L.A. Rams in the trade for the All-Pro cornerback also is looking to get his 2023 season jump-started.

Tight end Hunter Long, traded to the Rams along with a third-round draft pick, was designated to return Thursday and practiced for the first time since being placed on IR on Sept. 9 because of a thigh injury.

Long, a third-round pick of the Dolphins in 2021, caught one pass in 16 games over his two seasons in Miami.
