'Did It My Way!' Eagles Ex DeSean Jackson Retires
With a Frank Sinatra flourish, DeSean Jackson appears to have called it a career, making an announcement on Twitter that sounds like a retirement-like goodbye.
"Did it my way 15 years strong!! Neva anotha like it! #0ne0fone," he announced on social media.
"My Way''? That is for certain. The long-time NFL wide receiver qualified for three Pro Bowls and one All-Pro team while starring with the Philadelphia Eagles, beginning as a second-round pick out of Cal, before also playing with five other teams. That group of clubs includes Washington and Tampa Bay, with whom he worked to torment Philly every time he opposed the team (and the person, Chip Kelly), who dumped him.
"It was a ******-up situation for me," Jackson said a couple of years ago on the All The Smoke podcast. "I took that personal. That's why I did go to Washington, and every time I played the Eagles, I made them regret that decision.''
Jackson, 36, issued his statement on Sunday morning. He last appeared in an NFL game in 2022, playing for the Baltimore Ravens, with a highlight of a 62-yard catch to key a Week 12 win over Jacksonville.
Jackson, always a colorful and sometimes controversial figure, totaled 641 receptions for 11,263 yards and 58 receiving touchdowns. His 26 catches for over 60 yards stands as an NFL record. He was also a standout in the return game. The Los Angeles native, who in 2020 spend time with his hometown Rams, played a notable 15 seasons and was a three-time Pro Bowler.
