Eagles Sign Jeff Stoutland to Contract Extension

The well-regarded OL coach and run-game coordinator is staying in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA - Jeff Stoutland is staying in Philadelphia.

The well-regarded offensive line coach and run-game coordinator has signed an extension to remain a key part of Nick Sirianni's coaching staff, according to a league source.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler first reported the deal and noted Stoutland had interest from other teams about becoming an offensive coordinator.

He nearly left the organization in the shift from Doug Pederson to Sirianni but ultimately decided to stay when the Eagles doubled down on their commitment to him and his wife Allison steered him toward staying in the Delaware Valley.

In the conversation for being the best assistant coach in the NFL, Stoutland was originally brought to Philadelphia in 2013 by Chip Kelly and has now lasted a decade with three head coaches, something All-Pro center Jason Kelce happened to talk about Friday before news of the extension broke.

"I mean Jeff Stoutland has been here for 10 years now and this has been the third head coach he's been with and that's not common in the NFL when there are coaching changes that you retain somebody that many times," Kelce noted while discussing the strength of the organization.

Set to turn 61 next Friday, two days before the Eagles take on Kansas City in Super Bowl LVII, Stoutland is the leader of the best offensive line in football from left to right: Jordan Mailata, Landon Dickerson, Kelce, Isaac Seumalo, and Lane Johnson.

All five starters were either All-Pros, Pro Bowl selections, or Pro Bowl alternates.

The team's depth is also considered to be top-tier with the versatile Jack Driscoll, former first-round pick Andre Dillard, 2022 second-round selection Cam Jurgens and Brett Toth, who is on the PUP list as he attempts to return from a torn ACL.

The Eagles also have a host of developmental prospects on the practice squad including OGs Sua Opeta and Tyrese Robinson, OTs Fred Johnson, and Roderick Johnson, and OC Cameron Tom.

Josh Sills, an undrafted free agent who made the team out of training camp, was a Stoutland favorite but his career is in danger after being indicted on accusations of rape and kidnapping from a 2019 incident in his home state of Ohio.

Stoutland is also the architect of one of the best running schemes in pro football that emphasizes angles and surfacing blocks correctly while utilizing the plus-one Jalen Hurts offers in the ground game.

The Eagles ranked No. 5 in the league when it comes to the ground game and ran for 268 yards in the divisional round playoff win over the New York Giants before following that up with 148 in the NFC Championship Game against San Francisco.
