Philadelphia Eagles' Jalen Carter Already a Top 3 Defender?

Despite only being a rookie, Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter has already placed himself amongst some of the league's top defenders.

We may only be four weeks into the season, but Philadelphia Eagles rookie defensive tackle Jalen Carter already looks like one of the best defenders in the league.

Entering the NFL Draft, Carter was widely viewed as the best prospect overall, but due to his position and off-field concerns, he somehow managed to fall to Philly at No. 9, where he was able to join the league's most dominant defensive line.

Since joining the Eagles, Carter has performed even better than advertised, easily showing he's a favorite for Defensive Rookie of the Year to by displaying dominance in his limited reps on the field.

Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell (14) runs past Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter (98) during the first quarter at Lincoln Financial Field.

Only three defenders have a pressure percentage of 20 or greater this season, according to Pro Football Focus: Micah Parsons, Myles Garrett, and Carter. However, Philadelphia's rookie shines even more in a different grade.

Carter (93.2) has the third-highest PFF Grade among all defenders this season, with less than one point separating him from the top player, Nick Bosa (93.9). Anyone who doubted the former Georgia Bulldog has likely been silenced.

He may be young, but Carter is showing he's the present and future. Carter is a gift that fell into the laps of the reigning NFC Champions, who undoubtedly are set up to contend for the Super Bowl not only this season as one of the two remaining undefeated teams but for years to come, thanks to their elite defensive line.

Carter and the Eagles will look to remain undefeated on Sunday when they visit the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium.
