Eagles’ Jalen Hurts: ‘New Fresh Prince' on SI Cover

How has Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts gone from backup to gracing magazine covers as one of the NFL's franchise faces?

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will be gracing the cover of Sports Illustrated’s 2023 Football Preview, which releases in September, marking a significant change in how he’s been perceived in his young career.

Hurts responded to skeptics by finishing second in MVP voting while leading the Eagles to the Super Bowl and dominating with both his arm and legs. In 2022, he completed 66.5 percent of his passes for 3,701 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions, in addition to rushing for 760 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Gone are the days when people debated whether he could develop into a high-end starter in the NFL. Since getting benched in favor of Tua Tagovailoa at Alabama, Hurts has improved at throwing thanks to coaches such as Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma and former Philly offensive coordinator Shane Steichen.

After entering 2022 fighting to keep his job as the Eagles starting quarterback, Hurts now enters 2023 gracing magazine covers as one of the NFL’s most known faces alongside players such as the only man to top him in the MVP voting last year, Patrick Mahomes.

Up until this point, Hurts has improved his stats every season of his NFL career. Seeing if he can continue that trend after finding immense success last year will be crucial for Philadelphia’s championship hopes after coming up a play short of winning the Super Bowl.

Keep an eye on Hurts as he looks to continue his success and redeem himself from a costly Super Bowl fumble this season despite no longer being an underdog competing for the Eagles’ starting quarterback job.
