Jalen Hurts vs. Patrick Mahomes? Eagles QB 'Not No. 2,' Claims Goedert

In the 2017 song "Gyalchester," Drake dropped the boastful line, "I know I said top five, but I'm top two -- and I'm not two." Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert was recently asked about Jalen Hurts' place among the top quarterbacks in the NFL, and seemed to take some inspiration from the popular rapper's lyric.

Appearing on "Pardon My Take," Goedert didn't mince words when discussing his quarterback.

"I think Jalen has to be at the top [of any quarterback rankings]. And if you don't [put him there], you're just trying to use his name," Goedert said. "I'm from Philadelphia, he's No. 1.

"...Like you can say he has good talent around him -- No, he's a dawg. He's really good, I think he should be top three, top two. It's hard to take anything away from Patrick [Mahomes]. And you go down that lists and there's probably 10 quarterbacks that could be in the top five, depending on what fanbase you are. Personally speaking, Jalen is in the top two, and he's not two."

Goedert would probably admit that he's not an unbiased party here. As he said, Mahomes' greatness is impossible to dispute at this stage, and for as productive as Hurts, Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills and Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals have been, all objective lists start with Kansas City's quarterback.

Hurts, though, has made remarkable strides in three seasons, culminating in a runner-up finish in NFL MVP voting in 2022. The former second-round pick tossed 22 touchdowns and ran for another 13 last season, and the Eagles rewarded him with five-year/$255 million extension, which guarantees him over $179 million

Despite being limited to 12 games a season ago, Goedert put up the best individual campaign of his career with the assistance of Hurts. As part of perhaps the most talented offense in franchise history, Goedert caught 55 passes for 702 yards in 2022.
