Eagles Fall in Playoff Prediction: Super Bowl Hangover?

Despite a Super Bowl appearance last season, this projection doesn't have faith in the Philadelphia Eagles winning the NFC East again.

We are still months away from the start of the season but that doesn't stop projections from being made. With content sparse in the offseason, the result is dozens upon dozens of playoff predictions about what teams will finish where in the standings.

The Philadelphia Eagles are not immune to these preseason articles, especially coming off a Super Bowl appearance. Everyone is curious to see just how well they do this season and if there will be a Super Bowl hangover.

But according to CBS Sports there will be a hangover - sort of. They don't have the Eagles missing the playoffs entirely but rather coming in second in the NFC East with a 10-7 record to earn a Wild Card berth.

Their division winners? The Dallas Cowboys, who the site also has finishing with a 10-7 record.

Of course, there hasn't been a repeat winner of the NFC East in nearly two decades so the Eagles failing to win the division for the second straight year would not be unprecedented.

However, there is plenty of reason to believe that won't be the case and that they will break the trend of no repeat winners. First and foremost, Jalen Hurts is still running the offense.

An MVP-caliber quarterback with a plethora of elite weapons, headlined by receiver A.J. Brown and the offseason addition of running back D'Andre Swift, is borderline unfair. If he can continue to take a step forward, then this Eagles offense can be one of the NFL's best.

On the other side of the ball, Philadelphia lost some key members of its its elite 2022 defense. Through the draft and free agency, though, the team restocked, reloaded and appears ready to go in 2023.

Predicting division standings and playoff teams in May is a fool's errand, and one that is practically impossible to do with any accuracy. For now, the Eagles are NFC East champs - and will be until someone shows they can change that this season.
