Eagles Reign Supreme in SI's Post-Draft Power Rankings, Cowboys Left Chasing

Sports Illustrated thinks the Philadelphia Eagles are clearly the best team in the league, based on the site's post-draft power rankings.

The Philadelphia Eagles look to get back to to the Super Bowl with major roster moves, including adding seven rookies in the 2023 NFL Draft. Rookie minicamp is about to begin and it's an exciting time of possibilities around the franchise.

Now that the dust has settled on post-NFL Draft rosters, Sports Illustrated has released new power rankings and the Eagles land at No. 1. Here's why:

While the Chiefs have the best all-around player at the most important position, the Eagles appear to be the best all-around team in the NFL right now. It’s a little bit hard to continue heaping praise on Howie Roseman when Jalen Carter fell to No. 9 in the draft for a reason. Yes, there have been some incredible instances of dealing around on the part of the GM, but had Carter not been arrested and charged in March with misdemeanor reckless driving and racing in connection to a crash that killed two members of the Georgia football program, he wouldn’t have made it out of the top three.

I suppose we can compliment Roseman for having the kind of veteran-laden roster that can enable him to take these types of calculated chances. The most enjoyable part of being an Eagles fan must be seeing the roster improving in waves. Carter and Nolan Smith will eventually take the place of the team’s current veterans, and every position has quality backups.

The Eagles traded up to select Carter, perhaps the best prospect in the draft. The "rich get richer" is the sentiment of most analysts in the wake of Philly landing Carter and his Georgia teammates Nolan Smith and Kelee Ringo. They're getting so many high grades that other general managers are reportedly suddenly jealous of Roseman.

The Eagles might even, at least by some predictions, be immune to the Super Bowl "jinx" that so often plagues losing teams in the big game the following season.

While SI thinks the Eagles are clearly the best team in the league, oddsmakers don't agree, giving the Kansas City Chiefs the best odds to win Super Bowl LVIII.

Philadelphia'a NFC East division rival Dallas Cowboys take the No. 9 spot in the rankings after a successful draft and the accusations of receiver Brandin Cooks and corner back Stephon Gilmore.

Nothing stokes a rivalry more than an Eagles team trying to usurp the champion Chiefs and a Dallas team closely on the tail with new weapons to utilize. And the fun is just beginning …
