Murderer Escapes Prison, Steals Eagles Gear: Governor Makes Promise

In this story:
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro made an announcement Wednesday morning that's likely to help his approval rating -- at least among Philadelphia Eagles fans that live on the eastern half of the state.
Following a nearly two-week search for convicted murderer Danelo Cavalcante -- who had escaped from Chester County Prison in late August -- law enforcement finally was able to regain custody of the 34-year-old Wednesday morning.
Coincidentally, when Cavalcante was captured, he was wearing an Eagles hoodie. In a press conference following Cavalcante being taken back into custody, Shapiro said that he will replace the hoodie that Cavalcante seemingly stole from a local resident. Shapiro even promised to do one better -- he'll replace the generic gray hoodie with a kelly green one.

Cavalcante temporary saw the light of day after he escaped prison by "scaling a wall and pushing through razor wire." He had been in prison -- set to serve a life sentence without the possibility of parole -- after stabbing his girlfriend Deborah Brandão 38 times in 2021, killing her in the presence of her two children.

Less than 48 hours before he was taken back into custody, Cavalcante broke into the home of a man in South Coventry Township, stealing an unsecured .22-caliber rifle out of the man's garage. Cavalcante didn't manage to make it too far in close to two weeks out of prison, eventually being captured in Pocopson Township, Pennsylvania. Ultimately, he wasn't able to escape the state of Pennsylvania, much less the country.
In addition to the life sentence without the possibility of parole that Cavalcante is already serving, he'll now be arraigned on a felony escape charge. On top of all of that, there's also an outstanding warrant in Brazil for Cavalcante in a murder case.
