Falcons Encouraged to Sign Ex-Cowboys Trade Deadline Acquisition

In this story:
With the calendar switching to April, all eyes turn to the draft around the NFL. But that doesn't mean there aren't still quality players teams can find in free agency.
For the Atlanta Falcons, there's extra urgency to find bargains on the free market. The Falcons don't have a first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
So, it would make sense for the team to make more cheap, low-risk adds in free agency leading up to the draft on April 23.
If the Falcons make just one more addition, Bleacher Report's Gary Davenport argued this week that it should be linebacker Logan Wilson.
"A somewhat dicey salary-cap situation precluded the Falcons from making any splash signings. The team also suffered a major loss on defense when veteran linebacker Kaden Elliss departed for New Orleans," wrote Davenport.
"The Falcons could look to add a linebacker in this year's draft, but after trading their first-rounder to the Los Angeles Rams last year, that will have to wait until Day 2 at least. So, the Falcons could stand to bring in a veteran stopgap to patch the position in the short-term."
The Dallas Cowboys added Wilson at the 2025 NFL trade deadline in an effort to help their ailing defense. Dallas sent a 2026 seventh-round choice to the Cincinnati Bengals for Wilson.
In seven games with Dallas, Wilson posted 24 combined tackles with one pass defense and one forced fumble.
The linebacker started one game for the Cowboys. Over parts of six seasons with the Bengals, Wilson started 65 contests.
Why the Falcons Could Consider Adding Linebacker Logan Wilson
Wilson would be another bargain bid addition for the Falcons. Atlanta has arguably already made too many of those type of adds this offseason.
In July, Wilson will turn 30. One could argue he doesn't move the needle all that much.
But he would also give the Falcons defense experience and some stability, especially with Kaden Elliss back in New Orleans.
"Logan Wilson's 2025 season was forgettable—his 70 total tackles split between the Cincinnati Bengals and Dallas Cowboys were Wilson's fewest since his rookie season," Davenport wrote. "But prior to that the 29-year-old topped 100 tackles in four straight seasons as the "green dot" linebacker for the Bengals."
From 2021-24, Wilson registered at least 100 combined tackles every season. In 2023, he peaked with 135 combined tackles, including five tackles for loss, nine pass defenses and four interceptions.
Through the first three weeks of NFL free agency, the Falcons have added veteran linebackers Christian Harris and Channing Tindall. Both came to Atlanta on 1-year deals that combined are worth roughly $4 million.
The Falcons could easily add more depth at linebacker. Wilson has more experience than either Harris or Tindall.
Wilson is also older, but if he can find his 2024 form, he has more upside.
According to Spotrac, the Falcons have $14.9 million remaining in cap space. That's ranked 23rd in the NFL as of April 1.
Spotrac projected Wilson's market value to be about $2.5 million on a per average annual basis.
