The Atlanta Falcons are making a big change to their offense this season by incorporating No. 8 overall pick Bijan Robinson into the mix.

Robinson is the highest drafted running back in the last five years, and he casts doubt on what Tyler Allgeier and Cordarrelle Patterson's roles will be in the offense.

Allgeier will likely be next in line for carries after running for over 1,000 yards in his rookie season. However, Patterson's role is up in the air. Considering the fact that the former first-round pick was drafted as a wide receiver, it could be possible for Patterson to line up there more frequently this season.

“He can play anywhere," coach Arthur Smith said. "Like, I’ve been on the record. Jonnu Smith can carry the football for us. CP’s shown that in ‘21, so this is nothing we haven't seen and we don’t have proof of. His role was a lot different in ’21 than it was in ’22. But again, we feel like we’re a very unique team and we got good matchups and it depends on who we’re playing. ... He’s a unique football player. I’m happy he’s here and I’ve loved coaching him.”

In 2021, Patterson caught 52 passes for 548 yards and five touchdowns, all career-highs. In 2022, those numbers took a dip, catching just 21 passes for 122 yards.

Given the new personnel and the versatility among the skill players, Patterson could honestly line up anywhere on any given Sunday for the Falcons.
