Duval County has its newest linebacker.

The Jacksonville Jaguars used their first of two fourth-round selections on former Florida Gator linebacker Ventrell Miller.

For Miller, the drive from Gainsville to Jacksonville is shorter than a lot of NFL journeys, and the 24-year-old is excited at the prospect of remaining close to home.

“Man it feels good just staying at home, being in my backyard,” Miller told local media. “It’s only a three to four-hour drive from my actual home so it ain’t bad. I’m definitely excited to be a part of the family.”

When asked if he had a good idea of whether or not the Jaguars were looking to draft him, Miller made clear that pre-draft meetings went well but the ultimate decision was not something he could’ve foreseen.

“I actually took a visit, my last visit for the day, that went pretty good,” Miller said. “They were letting me know how interested in me they were but I didn’t know what was going to happen though.”

Miller made clear that the selection by Jacksonville was far from a mistake and that the Jaguars will be getting an impact player on the field from day one.

“Man, a dawg,” Miller said when asked about what kind of player the Jaguars will be getting. “Somebody that is going to go out there and compete every day, work hard no matter what position it is. Just trying to find a way to help the team succeed.”
