6 Jaguars Veterans On the Bubble Entering Final Week of Training Camp

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Jaguars will have to make some tough decisions this week.

With training camp entering its final leg, teams will have to make massive roster cuts on Sunday afternoon as they trim each roster to 53 players. For the Jaguars, that could mean trouble for a few veterans who have been able to carve out roles on past rosters. Here are six who may fall into that category.

LBs Jalen McLeod & Yasir Abdullah

It would not make much sense for the Jaguars to keep both Jalen McLeod and Yasir Abdullah, unless the Jaguars opt to not move forward with Jahlani Tavai as a backup off-ball linebacker following the season-ending injury to Parker Hughes. With the role that the strong side linebacker players in Anthony Campanile's scheme, though, history suggests there will be one winner from this battle.

Abdullah started off the preseason strong with a sack and a stellar special teams tackle in Week 1 against the New Orleans Saints, though he was less successful against the Carolina Panthers last week. Jalen McLeod did not play in the first two preseason games, but returned to practice this week and should be expected to play in the preseason finale against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

McLeod has flashed some real upside as a pass-rusher earlier in training camp, and the 2025 Day 3 pick seemed to be building momentum. Abdullah is an experienced pro, though, and offers proven special teams value. This one feels like it could go either way.

CB Christian Braswell

Perhaps I am reading the situation wrongly and I should include Jabbar Muhammad alongside Christian Braswell. With that said, I do feel like Muhammad has done enough to win the No. 5 cornerback job for the Jaguars, which would mean Braswell would need the Jaguars to carry six cornerbacks in order to make the roster yet again.

With that said, Braswell does have the upside of experience with the coaching staff. The Jaguars staff loved what he brought to the table on defense and special teams last season, and he has returned to the field after being limited at the start of training camp.

“Yeah, Bras, he's done a great job to fight his way back. That's kind of who he is, though too," Jaguars defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile said Monday. "He's a guy who gives you maximum effort. He's a high-character guy. He's got a ton of talent. He's an explosive guy, whether that's on special teams or defense, he's been a guy that we can rely on. It's good to get him back, where he's feeling good and watch him get out there and run around a little bit."

TEs Quintin Morris & Hunter Long

When the Jacksonville Jaguars drafted rookie tight ends Nate Boerkircher and Tanner Koziol in April, they made it clear that it would be hard for many other veteran tight ends not named Brenton Strange to make the roster. The Jaguars could easily carry four tight ends, but five would seem like a big stretch. That means there could be one spot to be split between Hunter Long and Quintin Morris, and that is only in the scenario in which the Jaguars do carry four tight ends.

Morris was more effective than Long last season, though Long has had a better training camp in 2026. This could ultimately come down to special teams value, or the Jaguars could go with just the rookies and Brenton Strange at one of their most-changed position groups to date.

OL Chuma Edoga

It has been an interesting situation when it comes to the final spot on the Jaguars' offensive line. The Jaguars returned all nine of the top offensive linemen from the 2025 squad and also added Emmanuel Pregnon to the mix. With that in mind, the Jaguars entered camp with an injury question with Cole Van Lanen, which created the question of whether an extra offensive lineman could start the season on the roster while the Jaguars waited on Van Lanen.

Then the Jaguars' offensive line took another hit with guard Patrick Mekari, who reportedly underwent back surgery and is on an unknown time table. Chuma Edoga seemed like a lock for the 53-man roster at that point, but then the Jaguars started to get some reinforcements in the form of a trade for Daniel Faalele and Van Lanen being activated off the Active/PUP list.

That now means there is once again a logjam at the No. 9 and No. 10 spot. It is hard to imagine Edoga is over any Walker Little, Wyatt Milum, Jonah Monheim, or Faalele if the Jaguars keep only nine offensive linemen, which could mean a tough departure for the veteran backup.
