NFL Mock Draft: Consensus Pick For New York Jets?

After signing offensive line help in free agency, most mock drafts now project the New York Jets to fix their tight end problem by selecting Georgia star Brock Bowers.

The closer we get to the clock, the closer the New York Jets get to Brock.

With the NFL Draft just more than two weeks away, mock drafts are beginning to crystalize their projections and nail down their picks per team. On Monday Pro Football Focus released its latest mock and again predicts the Jets will stay at pick No. 10 overall and select talented Georgia tight end Brock Bowers.

Again, we're still 17 days from the draft, but at this point a consensus mock-draft pick would be Bowers. Second most-popular choice would be an offensive lineman, but no particular player.

In PFF's new mock, a record six quarterbacks are selected in the first 15 picks of the draft. PFF projects Caleb Williams to the Bears, Drake Maye to the Commanders and Jayden Daniels to the Patriots to kick things off.

At one point this offseason, mocks connected the Jets with Notre Dame left tackle Joe Alt. But after the free-agent signing of Tyron Smith filled that void on the offensive line, most analysts feel New York now won't be able to pass by far the best tight end available in Bowers. It would provide another weapon for quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who also saw his team sign receiver Mike Williams in free agency.

In PFF's mock, Alt goes No. 7 to the Titans and Washington receiver Rome Odunze is picked by the Bears at No. 9 before the Jets go on the clock. Reasons PFF:

"Even after adding Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses this offseason, it would still make sense for the Jets to select an offensive tackle with this pick, given both players are older and aren’t under contract past this season. With that said, the Jets’ Super Bowl window is closing rapidly with a 40-year-old Aaron Rodgers as their starting quarterback. Giving him the greatest tight end in college football history would help maximize that window and fix what was the least productive slot receiver room in the league last season."
