New York Jets Targeting Georgia's Brock Bowers in NFL Draft?

New York Jets' general manager Joe Douglas spoke positively about all four tight ends under contract, but wouldn't rule out targeting Brock Bowers in the upcoming NFL Draft.

The New York Jets' tight ends group seems set, but the possibility of drafting Georgia's Brock Bowers cannot yet be dismissed.

"I love our tight end room, actually," said Jets' general manager Joe Douglas while addressing a media scrum at the league meetings last week in Orlando. "But, again, like that question about wide receiver, if there's a chance to add even more dynamic players we're gonna look at it."

By multiple accounts, Bowers is a dynamic talent with Top 10 draft potential. The 21-year-old tight end earned three consecutive All-America honors while competing for a national powerhouse.

Bowers, a two-time John Mackey Award winner, led Georgia in receptions (56), receiving yards (714) and touchdown catches (6) this past season despite an ankle injury limiting him to 10 games.

Although the idea of pairing Bowers with future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers is appetizing one, the Jets' tight ends quartet already features a proven pass-catching TE1. Veteran Tyler Conklin finished as the team's second-leading receiver in 2023, totaling 621 yards on 61 receptions while securing 70.1 percent of targets.

"Having a vet guy like Conk, he's a dude. He's a stud. He can get open. He's an excellent route runner, unbelievable hands," said Douglas.

New York's GM also explained the excitement surrounding the three other tight ends under contract, beginning with 2022 third-round draft pick Jeremy Ruckert.

"Big Ruck, he's gonna jump on the scene even more this year. We all know how talented he is," said Douglas.

Earlier this offseason, the Jets agreed to terms with restricted free agent Kenny Yeboah. The 25-year-old has made 24 appearances over the past three seasons with the bulk of the work coming on special teams.

"Kenny Yeboah brings a physical dynamic at the point of attack. He can do a lot of things for us in the run game, and he's a really dynamic special teams player," said Douglas.

There's also 2023 seventh-round pick Zack Kuntz, who spent the first 17 weeks of his rookie season on the Practice Squad.

"Zack Kuntz, he's a physical phenom. He runs like a gazelle. He had a great year of development last year," said Douglas.

For now, the general manager seems content with the quartet.

"We feel like we have four guys in our room right now that are legit NFL tight ends," said Douglas.

Still the question remains. Will they add a fifth come draft night?
