Oddsmakers Expect Jets' Misery to Continue vs. Falcons

NFC North opponent visits MetLife Stadium as betting favorite over slumping Gang Green

In what once seemed like one of the more winnable games on their schedule, the New York Jets are betting underdogs at home against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 13.

Set to visit East Rutherford for a non-conference contest on December 3 at 1:00 pm ET, the Falcons (5-6) are 2.5-point road favorites over the Jets (4-7). Atlanta, with Desmond Ridder as its starting quarterback, posted a Week 12 outright home win over Derek Carr and the New Orleans Saints on November 26.

It's the second week in a row as a home underdog for the Jets, who are currently on a four-game losing streak. The Miami Dolphins closed as a 10.5-point favorites in the first-ever NFL Black Friday Game and easily covered the point spread by posting a 34-13 victory at MetLife Stadium.

The Dolphins were initially listed as a 7.5-point favorite for the November 24 clash. The significant line move that pushed the spread into double digits occurred shortly after the Jets tabbed Tim Boyle as the starter at QB.

One day after the loss, Jets' head coach Robert Saleh announced that Boyle is in line for a second start against the Falcons.

"We’re giving Timmy another shot to roll next week," said Saleh. "Obviously, there’s things that he could have done better. There’s things that he had no control over and I know he battled out there."

In his first start as a Jet, Boyle went 27-of-38 passing for 179 yards and one touchdown. He was intercepted twice and sacked seven times, accounting for a 67.8 quarterback rating.

Ridder wasn't exactly an example of sufficient quarterback play in the 24-15 win over the NFC South rival Saints. He was intercepted twice while posting a 63.3 passer rating. The Falcons rushed for 15 first downs and also benefitted from a pick-six in the victory.

Both teams' offenses are averaging fewer than 20.0 points per game this season. The Falcons, who have 10 touchdown passes through 11 games, score 19.4 points per contest. The Jets, who have only seven TD passes this season, rank 30th out of 32 teams with 14.8 points per game.

SI Sportsbook has opened the expect point total (over/under) at 33.5, the lowest of any NFL game on the Week 13 docket. Money line bettors looking to back the Falcons must lay -143 odds with the Jets priced at +120.
