Robert Saleh Provides Injury Update on Jets' Four PUP Players

Timelines for RB Hall, WR Cobb, TE Uzomah and DB Bernard-Converse

The New York Jets placed four players on the physically unable to perform list as rookies and veterans reported to training camp on Wednesday and head coach Robert Saleh provided some clarity one day later.

Designated as Active/PUP due to football-related injuries, running back Breece Hall, receiver Randall Cobb, tight end C.J. Uzomah and rookie defensive back Jarrick Bernard-Converse were unavailable to practice on Thursday.

All four currently count against the Jets' 90-man roster limit, but can't officially participate in practice until the designation is lifted.

According to Saleh, Uzomah and Cobb won't be out much longer.

"Uzomah should be good here in the next couple of days," said Saleh following the team's first preseason practice.

The 6-foot-5 tight end has been dealing with an apparent quad strain that he suffered on the final day of OTAs in June.

"Cobb, I think he's on CJU's timeline," said Saleh. "He should be cleared here in the next few days."

Prior to joining longtime teammate Aaron Rodgers with the Jets, Cobb underwent offseason surgery to reportedly "clean out the back of his ankle."

Meanwhile, as he did during OTAs, Hall, who battles back from the ACL tear he suffered in Week 7 last year, continued to work out on the side.

"He looks really good. Someone gave me a little whisper that he hit 23 [mph] today on his GPS," said Saleh. "He's in really good shape Obviously, we're gonna do good by him and slow play it."

As for whether Hall will be a full-go for Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills, a hopeful Saleh would not commit.

"When he's ready, he's ready. The one thing with these ACLs, you don't want to go too quick, but you don't want to go too slow," said Saleh. "There's a balancing act — trust our trainers, trust our doctors."

Hall, who totaled 681 scrimmage yards in 6.5 games as a rookie, has to clear a few more hurdles in order to come off the PUP list.

"There's a few things that we've got to see [before Hall can start practicing]. There's still the running and cutting and change of direction, all that stuff," said Saleh.

Bernard-Converse, a sixth-round draft pick, could be unavailable the longest of the bunch.

"JBC, he's dealing with a foot," said Saleh. "He'll come around. It's gonna take a couple of weeks."

Veteran left tackle Duane Brown was not present for Practice No. 1 due to "personal reasons," but Saleh did not sound as if a prolonged absence is expected.
